AIBU to ask for advice on hanging washing out?

I know this sounds ridiculous but omg it's driving me crazy. The weather has been absolutely beautiful here the past few days so I take any opportunity I can get to hang my washing outside.

Today is super windy and no matter what I do, my stuff either goes flying off the line or all bunches together! I've gone running out at least 10 times already today and it's so annoying!

Normally I would put it down to weather conditions but my smug neighbour has her washing blowing happily, all sitting in place perfectly. What am I doing wrong?! I'm sure my pegs are pretty sturdy and I definitely know how to hang washing, just somehow hers stays put and mine makes a break for it. We both just have lines rather than whirligigs/rotary dryers if that makes a difference.

Any advice is appreciated Grin

I think it's down to the page I'm afraid. Ask your neighbour where she got hers and please share here!

Where I live it is always windy and I am on the search for the perfect peg (that old rock n roll lifestyle again!). I have Brabantia which are not great, Minky which are better but the best are these www.lakeland.co.uk/23732/20-Flower-Design-Soft-Grip-Clothes-Pegs

PEG! Not page Hmm

GummyGoddess · 19/05/2018 13:30

Are you not folding as much material over the line for the pegs to sit on?

hegs.com/

These are the only pegs which work in my opinion.

They're so strong and so easy to use.

Use proper wooden pegs and push them further into the line on windy days.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 19/05/2018 13:43

Yep, wooden pegs are the best. Pushed as far on the line as you can. Mine never moves!

PenelopeFlintstone · 19/05/2018 13:46

YY to cheap wooden pegs.

coconutbun · 19/05/2018 13:48

@AjasLipstick Thank you so much for the link, these look great! A little pricey but the reviews seem positive so I might have to treat myself (and my line!) Smile

Wooden pegs stop the washing shimmying along the line.

ushuaiamonamour · 19/05/2018 13:56

I've never had a problem with the pound-shop pegs I use. Are you shoving them down all the way to the hinge when pegging? If you peg clothes up with just the indentation, the hole, in the closed side gripping the line they won't be nearly as secure. If that makes sense. And it probably doesn't.

Oldraver · 19/05/2018 14:02

The last two lots of washing line I have bought has been very thin and only lasted a year or so...where my previous one lasted a good 15 years odd. The thin line does make a difference as there isn't much for pegs to grip.

Anyone bought any decent line recently ?

NaMajesty · 19/05/2018 14:05

Same here I use cheap plastic ones and never have a problem.

Make sure heaviest part of your washing is the bit hanging not the bit you peg (e.g peg bottoms of shirts, not the tops, peg the ankle holes of the pants, not the top belly part)

Make sure you're folding enough clothing over the line and then pegging it as far down as the peg can go. It will have two 'gaps' and you need to make sure you're using the gap right next to the spring to clip onto the washing line otherwise it won't have enough friction to stay in place. I hope that all makes sense ConfusedGrin

Peg tops by the bottom and bottoms by the top Grin.

AjasLipstick · 21/05/2018 01:38

I find wooden pegs will leave marks on white things.

Nanna50 · 21/05/2018 01:45

Speaking as someone whose washing is usually blowing horizontal, your washing line is too thin or too plastic so the washing slides about even with good pegs.

Wooden dolly pegs are good but the Lakeland pegs are brilliant, no marks and soft grip. www.lakeland.co.uk/25462/20-Soft-Grip-Clothes-Pegs-Sky

halfwitpicker · 21/05/2018 01:47

How many pegs per towel for example?

Sounds like you're skimping on pegging tbh
