The amount of tv/films without subtitles is BULLSHIT

I don’t even have hearing issues but I like havin the subtitles on, have used them for years.

I’d say there’s about a 30% hit rate for programmes having subtitles. Which if you did have hearing issues is fucking ridiculous. How hard can it be to programme subtitles, especially on play back ffs, can imagine more issues with live tv etc

AIBU to think they need to pull their fingers out. Whoever they are

In my experience, subtitles depends on which channel the film is being shown on,rather than the film itself.

But seriously, from what little I've learned so far, access services is a growing field and you can expect closed captions to become much more prevalent.

As my DM would have said, "I'll believe it when see it."

That said, I've made a few predictions that the Next Big Thing in tech will be a subtle but definite move to keep us oldies using our iShinies. It does not fit Apple, Google, or Microsofts business plan for people to stop using their tech when their vision fades, or their fingers fumble ...

MrsHathaway · 19/05/2018 19:42

Not convinced. The big tech drivers suffer from homogenous staffing - they're young, healthy, able-bodied, intelligent men. Even the leaders are still in their thirties and disproportionately unencumbered by spouses and children. There will always be more new young people, and it's more fun and bleeding edge to design for the young.

I honestly think it may be a cost issue somehow. As for example and it's a poor one but, diagnosis murder (my guilty pleasure) when on bbc1 had subtitles. It's now on cbs on channel 39 on freeview and no subtitles at all. The same with films on the Sony movie channel on freeview. None of them have subtitles.

Dandeliontea123 · 19/05/2018 20:33

It really winds me up when something that has previously been shown, with subtitles, on the BBC, ITV, or C4, is shown on another channel without the subtitles. Really- how expensive can it be just to show subtitles that have already been added?

Sorry, I didn't know "hearing impaired" wasn't right anymore. I'll update my lexicon Smile
