AIBU to think we should have upvoting like Reddit?

Was just reading a post I really agreed with that gave great advice and thought it was a shame there's no way to upvote it to greater prominence like you can do on Reddit. As it is, you just get the posts in chronological order rather than seeing the ones many people consider to be the most useful first.

I'd be interested in trials of something like this in a non AIBU topic.

I always thought AIBU should have a voting thing. Post long replies as we do, but have a YABU/YANBU button, too. 50/50s are where the real bunfights lie. They get coloured one colour for YABU and another for YANBU if either reaches 75%.

No, it's bloody awful, you get some sections where only one kind of opinion is allowed. No space for back and forth or any kind of discussion because the unpopular opinion gets buried.

I like that on MN each post is equal and stands on its own.

I think MN needs an edit posts function first...

Reddit is the most popular forum site on the internet and the up/down voting is what works best. Many other forum sites have the same feature.

I'd say mumsnet needs edit and delete post options first.

Yes

I dunno, have often wanted to like some hilarious comments on here, but then again I love the fact that it's so straightforward and I don't need to learn some kind of arcane code or whatever to post.

Reddit bamboozles me with their having to know certain things to format or post properly, I just stick to lurking. I thought it was marvellous at first, thoroughly bored now though. Constant reposts, very US centered and basically anything with a woman in it will get boner/porn bollocks, so boring.

And thats different to MN how?

I asked if you'd been on Mumsnet a while op because this is a discussion that has been had many times before, and the answer is always a resounding no! But I'm coming round to liking the idea of an upvote or I agree button - it might stop some of the terrible repetitive answers from people who can't even be bothered to read the thread.

Absolutely no to down votes though! The moaning about it on MN Troils is laughable.

BertieBotts · 19/05/2018 17:23

People may argue against posts on MN but at least the controversial point is left to stand so people reading the thread can form their own opinions. It's not shoved right down to the bottom or hidden as though there is something wrong with it.
