Thanks PetulantPolecat!

Foxsox · 18/05/2018 20:59

We pronounce it
Volx wagen

Yes the L is heard.

wendiwoowho · 18/05/2018 20:59

I say it like volts-wagon, no idea why the k becomes a t. People either pronounce it like me or vaults-wagon here Confused no one pronounces the k in it.

Foxsox · 18/05/2018 21:00

Brilliant hahaha
It's pronounced veedubilyou

Topseyt · 18/05/2018 21:00

It is not a silent L. German does not work that way. Your DH is right.

I've never heard anyone not pronounce the L.

TheDairyQueen · 18/05/2018 21:02

YAB so VVU. There's no silent 'L' in that, either.

Allthebestnamesareused · 18/05/2018 21:03

Fulks - vaagen

starzig · 18/05/2018 21:04

It's not silent. Just comes across very light in the English accent.

Shoppingwithmother · 18/05/2018 21:05

folx-vargen

CrunchieFriday · 18/05/2018 21:08

@apostropheuse Grin

FASH84 · 18/05/2018 21:11

German speaker - it's follksvaagen or thereabouts although the v is not quite as soft as an English F but almost. I think you owe him an apology...

FASH84 · 18/05/2018 21:12

I have never heard someone say vokeswagon. Although DH regularly says undermime rather than undermine so does MIL, it makes me giggle because I imagine a mime artist doing a half arsed job...

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 18/05/2018 21:15

Also volx-wagen here.

Although I like veedubilyou.

EdWinchester · 18/05/2018 21:15

Vokeswagon?

Noooo! That is just wrong.

Caaarrrl · 18/05/2018 21:15

It's German and pronounced more like Follks vargen if I remember GCSE german correctly.

happy to be corrected by any native german speakers or linguists though!

paxillin · 18/05/2018 21:15
UserV · 18/05/2018 21:15

I agree with your DH that the L is pronounced.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 18/05/2018 21:16

No. It's German.

Chachachac · 18/05/2018 21:17

I always exaggerate the ‘l’ sound, a bit like how some irritating people say ‘fillum’ for ‘film’.

diddl · 18/05/2018 21:18

He's wrong if he's saying the v as a v though!

BonnieF · 18/05/2018 21:20

Vee-dub.

Oder, auf deutsch : Fokes-vaagen.

Piggywaspushed · 18/05/2018 21:20

I say he l in 'folk', too. Sorry not sorry.

And I live on a road with that in the name Grin

I'd irritate the hell out of you with my quaint correctpronunciation.

But I don't say vagen but wagon.

Just say VW OP!

ProperLavs · 18/05/2018 21:28

No it's not silent.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/05/2018 21:31

Dh is motor trade. It’s Volkswagen.
