To throw away this mince?

I bought some meat from a very good butchers on Tuesday, all different meat and I asked if it was OK to freeze. The butcher said yes the meat was OK in fridge for three days then to freeze any that wasn't used.
I came to use a pound of it this afternoon to make spaghetti bolognese and opened the package and it was mostly brown but very slimy. It didn't actually smell too bad so I cooked it thoroughly but then chickened out of eating it as the kids were going to have it as well.
Aibu to throw it or is it OK to freeze and use another time? (it's cooked now and in Spag bol sauce)

You are already suspicious of it so whether it's off or not I'd throw it away.

Bumble1830 · 18/05/2018 17:23

Personnally, I think it'll be fine, i'd eat it

Mxyzptlk · 18/05/2018 17:26

If it's not fit to eat now, in your opinion, then freezing won't help the situation. Just bin it.

FelicityMorange · 18/05/2018 17:45

Wang it.

liz70 · 18/05/2018 17:49

It's mince. Eat the same day or freeze that day.

CheeseRollingChampion · 18/05/2018 17:51

I wouldn't eat it if it was brown and slimy tbh. Mince I squally cook or freeze within 48hours. In my experience it starts looking gross very quickly after 24 or so and I can't trust it.

liz70 · 18/05/2018 17:53

Like rice, masses of surface area for bacteria to grow on. Hence the extra caution needed.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 18/05/2018 17:55

If in doubt, throw it out.

FocusOnMePlease · 18/05/2018 18:03

I buy fresh from butchers as and when needed but mine did say mince will be fine for couple of days in the fridge and warned me it would start to turn brown but not to worry. Not sure about the slimy bit though Confused as long as it doesnt smell i would use it.

bobstersmum · 18/05/2018 19:19

I've thrown it!

Glad you’ve thrown it- I would have done the same

MrsElla · 18/05/2018 19:22

Mince should be a nice bright red with no smell if its even slightly brown I'd throw it away

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/05/2018 19:26

Brown is only oxidation. Meat is only bright red when oxygen is excluded e.g. in MAP or vacuum pack.
Thorough cooking will have killed anything pathogenic, but the sliminess suggests lactic acid bacteria, so it would probably taste sour.

Slatternsdelight · 18/05/2018 19:27

Slime on meat and fish is a bad sign; you were right to chuck!

MrsElla · 18/05/2018 19:28
