Addicted to carbs! Can I get away with it?

I'm 5ft 10in and weigh 10st 2lbs.

My goal weight is 9st 7lbs.

I log my food via MFP and have a gym membership. I do roughly 4 cardio work outs a week and have recently started a weights program.

Still I can't get below 10st!! Trainer has said I need to change my macronutrients to be 50% protein, 25% carbs and fat. I've started this today and never realised how addicted to carbs I am. I've just had a filling ham and cheese omelette and an now craving my usual packet of crisps - but I can't have them as it would push me over my carbs allowance.

AIBU to think the macronutrients thing is bollocks and its all about calories in vs out no matter what form they come in? Or am I just making up excuses so I can have some crisps?

Your BMI is a the low end of healthy, why do you want to lose more weight?

OnTheporch · 18/05/2018 13:12

Because I have a high fat percentage and still look fat

Imo it is just calories in v calories out!

I eat carbs most days sometimes with every meal and I’m a healthy weight always have been, maybe carbs stop some people losing weight/being a healthy weight but you are not the devil for me

Peanutbuttercups21 · 18/05/2018 13:15

I think your body probably "thinks"'it is at a good weight already. What is your fat percentage? I imagine quite low?

Carbs are necessary when you work out regularly.

For a person who exercises regularly, saying "I am addicted to carbs" is like saying you are addicted to water, or oxygen Wink

Your trainer sounds a bit irresponsible tbh

maxthemartian · 18/05/2018 13:16

You'll burn fat if you go into ketosis so no not as simple as calories in vs calories out.

Scabbersley · 18/05/2018 13:18

Oh sorry OP but in the nicest possible way get a grip. You can't be fat at 10 stone and 5 10

I was a size 10 at 10 stone and 5 foot 7

OnTheporch · 18/05/2018 13:18

Fat is 27.8%

craving...addicted...disordered body image. get help.

Noboozeforme · 18/05/2018 13:33

I'm just over your height and a stone heavier! I'm a size 10 on top and (very comfortable) 12 on the bottom. I can't see how you are fat ?

galison · 18/05/2018 13:33

I am guessing you have a lean defined body look in mind that you want and the trainer has given you advice on how to achieve that.

Maybe the question you need to ask yourself is whether you think it is worth the deprivation and if you get there will you be able to maintain it? And if you don't trust his advice and if you are paying for it, it might be worth questioning that too.

Bluelady · 18/05/2018 13:40

I'd venture to suggest that the only person who thinks you look fat is probably you. I mean this really kindly - I think your issue is with your perception of yourself, not your body.

OlBitey · 18/05/2018 13:45

OP I think you might get more useful advice on bodybuilder forums rather than here. Look up xxfitness on Reddit.

It’s perfectly possible to be ‘fat’ and still in the healthy BMI range! (Not that I’m saying OP is fat of course)

I’m bang in the middle of healthy BMI, yet I have a flabby belly, flabby thighs and love handles. It is fat, simple as that. I also want to lose at least half a stone (closer to a stone if I’m honest) to get rid of the fat. My body fat percentage is over 30%. Which is also why I think BMI is pretty rubbish as apparently I’m healthy...

OP - from my experience, I can only lose weight when I cut down on the carbs. But like you, I find it bloody hard as I’m addicted to them!
