Quick response needed...leaving him in the house on his own?

Okay my washing machine repair man has been here all morning repairing my washing machine. It's a big job and will be here at least another hour or so. I need to leave at 2.30 which he knows and says it will be done by then.

However, I haven't taken my dog out all morning as he's been here all morning. There's no one else in the house. My dog keeps trying to catch my eye as if to say "what's happened to my walk???"
When the repairman leaves I won't be able to walk him as I'll be leaving.

Would it be safe or risky to leave the repairman in the house alone whilst nipping out with my dog? He seems a nice guy but that doesn't mean anything does it?

I wouldn't. If you don't have a garden can you take him outside without the walk so dog can do its business

TomHardyswife · 18/05/2018 12:29

Yes we have a garden and so he's already been outside. He's got loads of energy though and needs a decent walk twice a day. Although having one later on wont kill him but I just feel so guilty!

I would, the majority are not a threat and he sounds too busy anyway.

Just ask him! Some contractors will have it on their business insurance that aomeone needs to be in but a lot are fine alone

Wildlingofthewest · 18/05/2018 12:31

If you do, it’s obviously at your own risk.
My husband is a tradesman and is regularly left on his own in people’s homes - I feel that this puts him at risk (as people could easily accuse him of stealing/breaking something) but he has no issue with it.
If you take the dog, can you do a short 15min walk around the block?

Badbadtromance · 18/05/2018 12:34

I always leave tradesmen alone. Poor dog

RatherBeRiding · 18/05/2018 12:35

I'd leave tradesman on his own - but ask him first? I often do this if I have to take dogs out and they're going to be working for a while.

halfwitpicker · 18/05/2018 12:36

Why wouldn't you?

TomHardyswife · 18/05/2018 12:38

Poor dog? It would be hard to find a dog who is more spoilt, loved and well cared for. Hmm

I'm just not used to having tradesmen in the house and wondered what everyone else does.

He's unlikely to steal anything because you know who he is. You need to work out how he's going to shut up the house when he leaves. Give him spare key and ask him to drop it through letterbox when he's locked up?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 18/05/2018 12:48

I leave tradesmen the spare key and get them to let themselves in - saves me taking a day off work! Only ones I have known for a while though.
