To think that Meghan could just walk herself down the aisle?

Obviously she must be very sad, but this is her second marriage. Presumably her dad walked her down the aisle of her first one and the symbolism is all about handing her over from her ‘old’ family to the new.

Surely that doesn’t apply when you’ve been married before? My dad gave me away at my first wedding. I walked down the aisle on my own at my second because he couldn’t give me away, he’d already done that years before. It would have just been weird to have done it again IMO.

I agree, DP getting all fidgety when I said this!! closet sexist misogynist despite two daughters never forgiven me for double-barrelled surname

She is her own person, fuck this tradition where you hand over your chattel to another man Angry

PandaPieForTea · 17/05/2018 23:13

DH and I walked in together. I love my dad very much, but it never crossed my mind to be ‘given away’. It wasn’t until years later that I realised that what we did wasn’t ‘normal’. I asked my dad if he minded that he didn’t get to give me away. He said that I was long gone to DH by the time we got married.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 17/05/2018 23:16

My DSs gave their GM to their GF (her ex-DH). So really my FIL should have walked her down the aisle?

HeddaGarbled · 17/05/2018 23:16

Or, the two of them could just rock up to the venue together and walk in together. They live together already. What nonsense this all is. I don't believe that either of them are church people. I doubt they attend church apart from ceremonial occasions. Wouldn't it have been great if they'd had a civil ceremony instead of all this hypocritical walking down the aisle in granny's private chapel bullshit?

ArtBrut · 17/05/2018 23:18

Personally, I want her to dance up the aisle to ‘I’ve Had the Time of My Life’, like Patrick Swayze at the end of Dirty Dancing, backed by dancers wearing dubious ‘80s interpretation of the 60s’ haircuts and dragging fascinator-clad guests out of pews and teaching them pelvic thrusts etc.

But no one listens to me. Sad

FuckingHateRain · 17/05/2018 23:21

I want Prince George to do it!..... Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2018 23:27

I’d like Charles to do it. Then for them to go and visit her father in hospital. This would put paid to all the gossiping and tattling.

CaptinKitty · 17/05/2018 23:39

Of course she technically can walk down alone

But generally, at a big event, its nice to have someone by your side for support.

I was nervous walking down the aisle at my wedding, everyone is looking at you, you're trying to walk nicely in shoes that may not be comfortable, dealing with a dress, corset, skirt hoops, stairs etc.

Its nice to have someone with you to hold your arm and have your back. Doesn't have to be your dad, but it's nice to share the moment with someone and have them as moral support

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:43

your crazy if you think 2.4 billion people will watch

The entire commonwealth will be watching. No to mention all of the Americas.

You're right - over exaggeration on my part, Google tells me only 2 billion watched Williams wedding.

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:48

I'm tempted to do yet another thread about this.

The father and his fake heart attack. I have to say its boring me now. A bit of angina is not a heart attack, neither are heart palpitations. Far be it for me to be cynical, but the stent operation was booked for the week after the wedding, the fiasco with flogging his sordid photos to the press, and the half sister /brother combo just means he was so embarrassed he brought it forward to squirm out of attending. He should stop jibber jabbering to TMZ every 5 minutes and get some dignity

Or did he?

Because he's hounded, and the are no photos of him in hospital either time, just like there are no photos of that half sister and her car accident. Odd that!

Teddy1970 · 17/05/2018 23:51

I don't think Charles should do it because he'd be giving away Meghan to his own son! I know it's only symbolic but I do think it needs to be someone from her side, her mum doing it will be cool..although apparantly Doria travelled to the UK with her brother? So you never know!

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:52

I don't believe that either of them are church people. I doubt they attend church apart from ceremonial occasions

Harry told you this did he? That he has absolutely no spiritual leanings? They are brought up within the faith, in a practicing religious household. They go to church, photos every week in the press of them all walking down, all of them.

Cant comment on Meghan, don't know her or he upbringing other than she attended a catholic faith school, which MN would assume had brain washed her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2018 23:53

Teddy
Yes I do agree there. It isn’t likely to happen for this reason. I was talking about desire rather than reality.

RubyFlint · 17/05/2018 23:53

Harry's Uncle Charles Spencer might step in..

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:54

although apparantly Doria travelled to the UK with her brother?

That would be interesting (unless you mean Dorias own brother ) seeing as he was outside Windsor giving interviews about12 hours before Dorias plane landed.

That said, the press had Doria in the UK last week Hmm then had her in LA the day after.

Teddy1970 · 17/05/2018 23:58

Yes NewYear Doria's brother Joffy I think...NOT the other brother! Well, we'll soon find out I guess.

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:58

They wont give Spencer another platform.

The little bridesmaid/pages parents are obviously in the country, Meghan is a god parent, it's possible one of the (male) parents could stand in, who better than one of your close friends. But the place will have to do something about suitable clothes.

TuTru · 17/05/2018 23:59

I just don’t even care.

NewYearNewMe18 · 17/05/2018 23:59

Yes NewYear Doria's brother Joffy I think

Well!!! why was he not in the car with Doria and whisked through immigration? The papers re reporting the only family member attending is Doria.

However, if you're right - that that is the only reasonable solution, Uncle Joffy

Glad we sorted that out.

HelloViroids · 18/05/2018 00:00

@Idontbelieveinthemoon I am now really hoping for the angels of Prince and Marie Antoinette to be in attendance on sat Grin

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/05/2018 00:00

Idontbelieveinthemoon. Great post upthread and ArtBrut Grin either that, or doing the whole Flashdance: 'What a Feelin'' routine down the nave aisle.

To paraphrase another poster, all MM threads just turn into Batshit Bingo now, so it's good to have a smile at one.

ohcomeon12321 · 18/05/2018 00:02

The entire commonwealth will be watching. No to mention all of the Americas. nowhere close most people in the commonwealth dont care or the usa and your source of 2 billion for will and kate is a wrong stupid to think a third of the world watched the wedding or will watch this wedding especially considering it was a Friday William and Kate got married

Teddy1970 · 18/05/2018 00:02

I don't know NewYear, I'm speculating as much as you...
