Asking for a relative. Basically a friend of hers went into the back of her car whilst being silly and not concentrating. My relative is pretty annoyed.

Small dent and some damage to the bumper, nothing major but still damage none the less.

The friend just laughed it off but Aibu fo think the ‘friend’ should of offered to pay to get it fixed. My relative is pretty annoyed her car is damaged but feels like she can’t ask because they are good friends!

If I had gone into the back of somebody else I would offer to pay so I didn’t look a a k**b!

She should pay for the damage no matter how small. Your relative will have to pay, and if it needs to go to a garage to be repaired, she's going to be without her car. She should tell her friend, she's going to get it fixed, and she will be giving her the bill.

AmazingPostVoices · 17/05/2018 20:02

They should have either exchanged insurance details or the friend should have offered to pay for the repair.

moita · 17/05/2018 20:02

Of course she should swap insurance details and apologise profusely

PeanutButterCheesecake · 17/05/2018 20:08

My mate reversed into my car, was mortified and paid me back the day I got it repaired. Anything else and you're just a cunt really. Tell her to ask the friend for the money within 48 hours or it's an insurance claim, leave the choice with the (ex) friend

Grilledaubergines · 17/05/2018 20:10

Friend needs to either pay for repairs or claim on her insurance. Your relative shouldn’t be one penny out of pocket.

It’s awful that the friend has laughed it off. I’d be so apologetic and would sort it out straight away.

IWantMyHatBack · 17/05/2018 20:13

When someone hit my bumper at low speed the whole bumper needed to be replaced. It might be more than just a bump. Her friend sounds like an idiot

Maiyakat · 17/05/2018 20:14

Many years ago I reversed into a friend's parked car. I was absolutely mortified and went with her to pay for the repairs. I would have gone through insurance if she had preferred. How could anyone think anything else?!!

MyNameIsTotoro · 17/05/2018 20:15

Friend did a stupid manoeuvre into my car once, years ago. Immediately apologised and sorted the repair out via their insurers.

It's what any decent human being does, friend or otherwise.

MoodyTwo · 17/05/2018 20:31

They need to swap insurance details

BlueJava · 17/05/2018 20:34

I hit my dad's car once. Obviously many apologies from me, we sorted it out via insurance.

AvoidingDM · 18/05/2018 01:48

My friend drove into the back of me. Sorted via insurance. The person who they dealt with at the insurance company estimated 1 in 4 accident the people know one another.

Murane · 18/05/2018 01:56

Ask the friend to pay. If they don't, report it to the insurance.

KeiTeNgeNge · 18/05/2018 02:01

Friend needs to pay. Otherwise it goes thru insurance.

ParentInCharge · 18/05/2018 02:03

A seemingly tiny bit of damage can actually be significant underneath. They should get a garage to check it out properly and tell friend that it is £XXX. Give them the option of cash in full or insurance claim. You're "supposed" to tell insurers about any accident at all but it does affect many innocent party's renewal. It shouldn't but it does.

Its very likely that if the friend offers to pay it up bit by bit, they will maybe make one payment and your friend can kiss the remaining money goodbye.

ParentInCharge · 18/05/2018 02:04

Apologies. *relative, not friend.
