Am I the only one that hates nursery dress up days?

My DS is 15 months old. So far in the last month I’ve needed to remember to:

dress him in pyjamas for Stress awareness week,

dress him as his favourite fruit for some healthy eating day,

today they had to go in dressed in party clothes for the royal wedding!

Ffs. If they are old enough to understand fancy dress fair enough. It takes all my effort getting us where we all need to be in the morning as it is, without all this jazz. Can’t it be saved for school age?

Even at school age it's a fucking nuisance.

Sparklingbrook · 17/05/2018 11:10

That's very young to be doing dress up days. You will have years of this. Sad

My low point was being asked to dress DS2 then 2 as a 'mince pie' the next day one Christmas. Hmm

YANBU!
It's a ballache for staff too

BlueJava · 17/05/2018 11:11

At that age I'd just drop him off in whatever you wanted him to wear for the day!

AngkorWaat · 17/05/2018 11:11

He’s gone in normal clothes today. He’s dressed as anti monarchist.

Ds is 2, I just don t bother, same as most of the other parents!

Have enough of it when he starts school!

LaurieMarlow · 17/05/2018 11:13

Ridiculous nonsense when he's so young. TBH DS is nearly 4 and not a big fan of dress up and it's still a pain.

The fruit thing made me laugh. What did you dress him as?

AngkorWaat · 17/05/2018 11:18

I dressed him in a yellow t-shirt and trousers that I luckily had...hey presto, a banana.

I’ve had older kids to dress as an evacuee and a dragon already this term, so my patience is wearing thin.

These dress up days a pain in the arse. It’s hard enough fitting in work, relatives, cleaning, homework, reading with some fucking fancy dress outfit! Thankfully our school recognised world book day is a pile of shit! And only asks them to wear something comfy

RatRolyPoly · 17/05/2018 11:39

Another one who doesn't bother, but the guilt is starting to creep in... definitely will make the effort when mine start school

jellycat1 · 17/05/2018 12:05

Me too. Head to toe pink for Think Pink day - I have two boys. World book day - no super heroes allowed. Christmas play - told a couple of weeks beforehand what part they'll be. Then in the next few years there's all that plus Romans, Knights, Victorians, teddy bears picnic - the list is endless!!

BluthsFrozenBananas · 17/05/2018 12:13

Dress up as your favourite fruit 😂. At least all children have nightclothes at party wear. Ive only got one year of primary left, I’m really not going to miss the random dress up days.

dinosaurkisses · 17/05/2018 12:18

There’s someone on my Facebook who dresses her 9 month dd up for a different theme every WEEK for baby sensory.

Every Monday there’s a status update asking “Does any1 no wer I cud get a baby unicorn outfit for baby sensory on thurs?”

Honestly don’t know how she has the energy.

windermerebell · 17/05/2018 12:20

With DS it’s red white and blue day tomorrow. Out School them but makes them quite easy

flamingofridays · 17/05/2018 12:23

yep! I don't hate the actual dressing up bit I just wish we got more notice!

we are usually told 1.5 days before so not realistically enough time to sort anything out if its not something you already have.

he's going in party clothes tomorrow for royal wedding, luckily it was his birthday a few weeks ago and I bought him a cute outfit so he is wearing that!

Inkspellme · 17/05/2018 19:44

I'd not join in until he's old enough to get something out of it - time enough then.

AmazingPostVoices · 17/05/2018 19:46

It’s not just you. Pretty much everyone hates them.

x2boys · 17/05/2018 19:51

school is worse ds1 primary school decided to hold a "60",s day to celebrate the school being 50 years old a few years back everyone had to wear clothes from the 1960,s(with a couple of days notice) but we weren't to go to any bother just wear clothes we had lying around. , because I just happen to have a cupboard full of 1960,s clothes lying around Hmm

ForalltheSaints · 17/05/2018 20:16

YANBU.

Incidentally we had a thread a week ago about a school that ended such traditions to avoid any difficulties for poorer families (and a few other things were ended too- I think this was one of the better ideas).
