To ask how much you pay for your cleaner?

Just been quoted £90 for a 4 hour clean (weekly not one off) for a 4 bed, 2 reception room house in a town in the Midlands. House is very tidy and mostly clean, one teen dc, one dog. We require thorough cleaning of kitchen, bathroom and downstairs wc, hoovering throughout, dusting etc just normal cleaning no wrong. I though this was abit steep but prepared to be corrected.

Thanks everyone! Am going to look for a self employed cleaner hopefully at a more reasonable rate.

My cleaner charges £12 ph but I pay £15 because I know the agency charge her £2-4ph

A company with employees has to charge more because employees cost more than their hourly wage. And if they are at all ethical, they will pay for the time spent travelling between houses. If they're charging enough to make a profit, then there will be VAT.

Self employed cleaners have lower overheads. If they're literally just picking up some extra cash in hand, then they won't worry about the insurance and possibly taxes. But if they're ill or have a holiday then they won't be able to clean for you.

Also near Oxford, £12 an hour, 3 hours to do a large house (only does two bedrooms though). I pick up EVERYTHING so she can whip round. I give her £40 because she is amazing.

I had a couple of £80+ quotes from a couple of agencies for similar on soth coast. Was sucked into one of them who did a few cleans but it was appalling and they kept missing very obvious stuff. I complained every time. After about 4 attempts I stopped then eventually found a local lady who is on her own and pay £12.50 per hour. She's great!

Look at postcards in shop windows, local paper, community magazines, ask around. Hope you find someone great!
