How much of an arse was I being?

First world problems, it's all sorted and I don't think anyone's upset. Just wondering by the reactions of those around me probably overthinking how much of an arse was I?

Went into shop that does £3 meal deal. Asked for a drink which included sugar tax so has a clear +7p sign

Also asked for another product (additional to sandwich) for £1

Was charged £4.77 I think

I expected £4.07

I stood there to explain, shop lady explained back its sugar tax. I show her ticket and say sugar tax is 7p not 77p

In the end turns out she'd misheard what I asked for of the product that was £1 and served me something different entirely

WIBU over 70p and a completely different (but still edible) item to hold up the queue? I was polite. Shop people and myself were still smiling, just felt like I annoyed others

That 70p could have really important. And it's your 70p, not theirs. I would've done the same, so long as you were polite.

Ansumpasty · 16/05/2018 09:47

Of course you weren’t.

Want2beme · 16/05/2018 09:48

YWNBU. The 70p belonged to you, not the shop. People in queues get frustrated when they're held up, but you were entitled to challenge it. I'd've done the same.

confusedandemployed · 16/05/2018 09:49

I'd have done the same thing.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 09:49

I also wanted the correct item. I'd have eaten the other one but not liked it as much and begrudged paying extra for something I don't like so much

YWNBU to query a mistake, which highlighted that a mistake had been made. The shop woman now knows she made a mistake and hopefully she will take steps to make sure she doesn't make a similar one.

Some people might think "oh ffs it's only 70p" but lots of people will know that 70p difference could be quite significant.

If anyone had the "ffs" response, that says far more about them than it does about you.

Justletitlie · 16/05/2018 09:51

You were all polite and smiling so absolutely fine!
I know what you mean though. I don’t like holding up queues. Whenever I chat to sales staff in shops or I’ve picked up a bruised melon (for example) and it needs to be changed, a queue of 3 or 4 people forms behind me, as if by magic.

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 09:53

She didn't really make a mistake... she charged me correctly for what she served me.

But served me wrong (misheard)

And then argued back it's sugar tax why except it was actually wrong product why in this case

You were being perfectly reasonable sorting out an error.

SheSparkles · 16/05/2018 09:53

YANBU. You queried an unexpected charge, doesn’t really matter if it was 70p or £7, it wasn’t what you expected

TheWomblerReturns · 16/05/2018 09:58

Thanks I guess any time you hold up a queue it's awkward and paranoia inducing

GabriellaMontez · 16/05/2018 10:00

I think she held up the queue. Yanbu. Everyone has this sometimes.

Not really. Only if you were being an arse. Why do you think you were an arse for wanting to buy and pay for what you wanted?

diddl · 16/05/2018 10:16

"Why do you think you were an arse for wanting to buy and pay for what you wanted?"

I was wondering that!

PlumsGalore · 16/05/2018 10:18

Its no different than the £29 I was charged for a kiwi fruit in Lidl. Some of the queue groaned a bit but I wasn't letting that go. I doubt anyone would have done.

Turned out the new tills were so sensitive the number of Kiwis keyed in was wrong. Worryingly I only noticed because £35 for about four cheapish items sounded so wrong. I may not have noticed with a trolley full of stuff.

Loonoon · 16/05/2018 10:28

You didn't hold up the queue, she did. It would have been ridiculous to settle for the wrong thing (even if it had been the same price). Otherwise why bother ordering at all, just let the staff dish items out at random.

Don't overthink this. Just enjoy your meal deal.
