Bought 3 items off eBay, estimated delivery tomorrow. I paid for the items on Saturday when I ordered. Seller hasn’t dispatched them. Would it be rude to message and ask why?

Obviously not bluntly but just asked if there’s any issues as to why my items haven’t been posted

They might have dispatched them but forgotten to update eBay. I've done that before now. No harm in checking if they've been sent I suppose though.

19lottie82 · 15/05/2018 15:54

They might have posted them and just not updated the sales record. Does their feedback suggest buyers have a problem with not receiving items?

I wouldn’t think YWBU to send a polite “hi just checking these have been dispatched?” message.

IWantMyHatBack · 15/05/2018 15:55

It's not necessary. The seller may have dispatched them but not marked it as sent, that's all.

Give it a couple of days (unless next day delivery specified, or something similar) and then message to check if the items have been sent.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 15/05/2018 15:57

Well to be honest, if the estimated date of delivery is tomorrow I would just wait and see if you get them and if not, then just send a quick message. When I sell stuff on ebay I never mark as despatched.

19lottie82 · 15/05/2018 16:01

When I sell stuff on ebay I never mark as
despatched.

You really should!

A - It’s crap communication with your buyers

And more importantly for you......

B - Unless you mark your items as dispatched within the time frame specified on your listings, you will get a “late dispatch” defect for each sale. If you keep not marking them as dispatched, then this will have consequences for your selling allowances ect, possibly even ebay closing your account (but you would receive a warning first).

SnobblyBobbly · 15/05/2018 16:02

I had this last week and needed the item for that weekend so would have had to go and get alternatives, so I sent a message asking. Turns out she just hadn’t updated eBay and the item arrived that same day.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/05/2018 16:02

Maybe i should have checked the feedback as about 6 people out of 80 odd have said the delivery was extremely overdue and no communication, my bad lol

19lottie82 · 15/05/2018 16:07

In that case I’d send a message today, and if no response and. No item tomorrow then open a not received case straight away.

There’s no point in dilly dallying with people like that!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/05/2018 16:08

Iv just messaged saying “Afternoon, was just wondering why my items hasn’t been marked as dispatched? Has it been sent yet”

I’m only bothered because it’s second class signed for, so it’s a bit of a pain waiting In until 1 everyday to see it it’s goint to come.

OP posts:
Dodie66 · 15/05/2018 16:15

That’s only an estimated delivery date. I always mark mine as dispatched as soon as I do it otherwise you get late dispatch on the account. It would affect the sellers rating

PiggeryPorcombe · 15/05/2018 16:18

The estimated date is probably based on the seller posting the item straight away. If you check the details in the postage section it might say that they usually dispatch within 2/3/4 working days. So she may not be outside of that yet.

UndomesticHousewife · 15/05/2018 16:21

What time frame did the seller say they'd dispatch the item?

FizzingWhizzbee · 15/05/2018 16:27

Is it a UK seller? And is it a business or a private individual?

If you buy your postage from within Ebay via the links on the 'sold' page, then your item automatically gets marked as dispatched, you don't specifically have to do it. Most private sellers would do this because it's easy, and cheaper than going to Royal Mail/Courier directly. I'm not sure about business sellers though - they may get bulk dispatch prices or have some other mechanism for buying postage.

As a private seller, I did once completely forget to post a sold item - DD came down with flu the same day and was very poorly for a couple of days to it just went completely out of my mind. I was very grateful for a civil reminder from the purchaser and suitably apologetic.

19lottie82 · 15/05/2018 16:30

No, the estimated delivery date is based on the combination of how many days they have said they will take to dispatch the item, and the delivery service they will use.

So a dispatch time of 2 working days, would add an extra day onto the delivery estaimate compared to a dispatch of 1 working day.

19lottie82 · 15/05/2018 16:31

What time frame did the seller say they'd dispatch the item?

That isn’t usually disclosed in the listing, or sales record. All the buyer is given is an estimated delivery date.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/05/2018 16:36

It didn’t say. It’s just someone selling some Avon bits. Just said estimated delivery would be tomorrow so I assumed it would be. Nothing I need straight away anyways

Lennon80 · 15/05/2018 16:41

They might have, I some times post the next day and forget to mark as dispatched. Its only Tuesday - three working days for dispatch is still fast IMO - I have made over 1K ebay purchases so have experience
