Neighbour parking on grass

I'm not sure if I'm being overly precious and, if not, how to approach....

I live in a new build estate, with the usual lack of parking. Our house is the end of three terraced houses, we each have one parking space in an area away from the houses. Between my house and the road, there's a large grassy area - this is looked after by the management company.

Next door has a visitor/lodger who parks on the road in front of our house. I've (obviously) got no problem with this, other than they keep parking with two wheels on the grass. This is now churning up the grass into mud. There's no need whatsoever to not have all four wheels on the road as there's more than enough room (much larger cars occasionally park there with no issue).

So.... should I ignore it and accept that the grass will get ground into mud? Or should I say something? I think notes are a bit passive-aggressive so would rather say something in person but wanted to make sure I'm not being ridiculous first. Alternatively, should I mention it to the management company?!

Try a diagram so we can all enjoy the parking thread to its fullest extent :)

But YANBU. I would talk to them directly first, then escalate if need be. Is there a problem with the edge of the road lacking definition?

We have same issue
I don’t give a hoot as I my neighbour is lovely and it isn’t my grass
Bloke moaned for years but I think now has accepted it could be worse!

Have attached diagram, which has wildly varying scale issues...!

Arkestra - it's really obvious where the road ends and the grass begins. Also, it's at least half the car's width on the grass so is intentionally parked on there.

Are they parking half on the grass because it’s on a bend and they want to leave room for caravan to pass?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 14/05/2018 22:59

Not caravan! Cars

BristolGrrl · 14/05/2018 23:02

Zibbidoo my diagram is a bit misleading, there's loads of room on the road as it sort of opens up. You could even fit a caravan through!

Ahh ok!
I wonder why they do it then? Are they precious about their car?

Tbh I would just ring the management company and say it’s happening and they need to install some kind of solid boundary like bollards or boulders. Don’t tell anyone you called them though Grin

Maelstrop · 14/05/2018 23:06

This happens locally and drives me mad, it causes the paths to become covered in mud too as the soil is disturbed and moved onto them.

Phone the management company anonymously-I think it’s against a byelaw or something. They won’t be happy that someone is wrecking the verge. I seem to recall a case where the damage had to be made good a while back.

UpstartCrow · 14/05/2018 23:06

Put a gnome there.

When he's squashed it put a gnome funeral there and a tiny cross.

BlueBug45 · 14/05/2018 23:08

Gnome funeral -Grin

BristolGrrl · 14/05/2018 23:09

Upstart that made me really laugh! Am very tempted.

This genuinely did make me laugh out loud!

Grin
EdWinchester · 14/05/2018 23:23

That would annoy me.

It’s amenity land. I wouldn’t want to look at churned up mud.

People are inconsiderate halfwits.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 14/05/2018 23:29

Gnome funeral!! 😂😂😂

Guilt trip them into parking responsibly!

Jonbb · 14/05/2018 23:31

If you are paying service charges I would definitely say something, because your money will be used to make good the damage. We had a similar problem with a property we own and it is possible to lay concrete blocks or matting that allows the grass to come through but prevents it becoming damaged.if parking is tight it's a good idea.

FeralBeryl · 14/05/2018 23:50

Couple of big rocks there, or some wooden posts - just smallish ones along the edge near the kerb. Lots of people have done this in our area because the grass verge looks awful once it's all muddy and boggy.
It's the kind of thing that you don't think about until you've got your own bit of grass to consider for lots of people.

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 14/05/2018 23:55

If there’s a management company I’d imagine there are bylaws. I’d have thought there will be one for recouping damage from a house owner for something they or their family/tenant etc does, rather than share it between everybody. Take a photo of the vehicle (number plate visible) and contact them.
