To think I can’t use a tampon ever again after childbirth???

minniemummy0 · 14/05/2018 21:52

I’m 6 months postpartum. I had a second degree tear and obviously had stiches for that.

I’m having my second period and no matter how much I try I can’t seem to get a tampon in right! I always used tampons before and had no problem getting them in. Very,
Very occasionally I would not put it in right and have to put a new one in again. Well it feels like that every time. I can’t seem to get it far up enough and I can actually still feel it.

Am I condemned to horrible towels forever??

Please don’t reccomend those cup things, I really have no interest in using them.

Have you been doing your pelvic floor exercises?

Things were different post childhood and tampons seem to go in at an angle/around a corner now for me

ohcecelia · 14/05/2018 21:54

I don't have good news here, sorry! I had a forceps delivery and tampons just feel horrific now, I can constantly feel them and they're actually quite painful. I've had to get used to pads again.

abbsisspartacus · 14/05/2018 21:56

Prolapse?

MinisWin · 14/05/2018 21:56

If you’re using Tampax, don’t! Try lillets which seem to be shorter and thicker, and also expand out the way so less inclined to feel them.

enjoyingscience · 14/05/2018 21:56

Have you tried different brands? Non applicator ones are smaller So might be better. I always lived in fear of nipping myself with an applicator anyway...

Sausagema · 14/05/2018 21:57

I had a bad second degree which healed fine and everything feels pretty normal, but apparently it is not as I find wearing tampons impossibly. They just don't seem to sit right.

I know you don't want to hear it, but I had to give in and try a cup as I just couldn't bear tampons and I hate towels. It's fine, not uncomfortable and not as minging as I thought. Sorry Grin

OhTheRoses · 14/05/2018 21:57

Why don't you request a tegerral to a gynaecologist? Sorry you are having a tough time.

abbsisspartacus · 14/05/2018 21:57

I couldn't use them for awhile ds1 grazed me coming out and it's still sensitive now he is nine Confused

Thistles24 · 14/05/2018 21:58

It may be worth making an apppointment with a gynae clinic to check all has healed as it should. Have you tried smaller sizes?

abbsisspartacus · 14/05/2018 21:58

Also are you dry? Ky helps get them in right

Realising right now I know far too much about tampon issues

LuluJakey1 · 14/05/2018 21:59

Have you tried putting a bit of lube on it? Nurse told me about trying that and it worked for me.

HeedMove · 14/05/2018 22:00

Mrs meldrum actually done a vlog on youtube about mooncups for this reason the other week and loads of people commented that they are sore and uncomfortable since child birth. I found that too but moved from tampax to lilets and they arent a problem but considering trying a mooncup for the enviromental factor anyway.

isupposeitsverynice · 14/05/2018 22:01

i'm with miniswin, could never use tampax comfortably after giving birth. switched to lillets and all's well

Strax · 14/05/2018 22:01

I couldn't use tampons or a mooncup after my last baby and turned out it was because I had both bladder and bowel prolapse. Have had surgery to fix it (after waiting far too long to face up to it) and all is back to normal now.

BuffyFan · 14/05/2018 22:04

Another to not get along with tampons post-partum here. Even more so second time and after my twins. They're 2 and a half now and it's a bit better, but still not great. (On the plus side, it seems to have actually improved things in the bedroom department, so I'm not complaining Wink)

I didn't fancy the thought of a mooncup for all that advocates swear they're brilliant. So I've just recently bitten the bullet and invested in reusable cloth sanitary towels. So much more comfortable than disposable ones! I'd really recommend them.

minniemummy0 · 14/05/2018 22:05

I really don’t want to ask this because I’m not sure I want to know the answer... but how do you know you’ve got a prolapse? No one ever checked down there after and I don’t know what I’d be looking for.

Thank you for all the tips so far!

I couldn't use tampons after DC1 and forceps. I had to use double towels to catch the flow. The situation didn't improve. Sorry. I didn't try a cup.

GinnyWreckin · 14/05/2018 22:08

I also switched to lillettes tampons, but find that my tolerance for them going in right is very low. After one attempt I abandon the effort... no lubrication problems, rather the angle.

And if I can wrangle to get one in, if they’re not exactly sitting up there exactly right, they have to come out, as they actually make me feel ill, so I mostly use pads again.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I use the teen packs of lillettes pads as they don’t have perfume or plastic coatings.

I couldn’t go near a mooncup now. They were bad enough to arrange in and out pre kids and I kept getting UTIs from all the bruising. Now even thinking about them makes me anxious.

UrgentScurryfunge · 14/05/2018 22:09

I know you said no cups but they do glide in without that horrid dry friction of a tampon. I never liked tampons before anyway, just a necessary evil to wrestle in sometimes when a pad wasn't practical.

I've only used a tampon once since having DS2 (he was a bad tear, and I discovered reusables before my periods returned) and that was when my period turned up early on race day. I can run comfortably with a cup, but I could feel that ruddy tampon grating away for all 8+ miles with each step.

CSP is much nicer than sweaty plasticy disposable pads anyway. Being fabric, it just feels like underwear and seems to absorb better. A lot less icky.

You can ignore me now Wink

GinnyWreckin · 14/05/2018 22:10

@BuffyFan I was thinking of getting the eco cloth ones too.
Where did you get yours? TIA

niknac1 · 14/05/2018 22:10

One of my children needed forceps and I think tampons are more difficult to fit in, I find tampax companies pearl much easier to insert, the mechanism seems to be smoother, and the tampon is shorter which I find easier to insert. They are more expensive but a lot more comfortable to insert.

niknac1 · 14/05/2018 22:11

Not companies Compak

Hoppinggreen · 14/05/2018 22:12

My youngest child is 9 and I can’t use tampons
They just feel weird

RomeoBunny · 14/05/2018 22:13

Squat down over a mirror. If you can see a bulge of any form from your vaginal erm opening/cavity/burning ring of fire, then you may have a prolapse. Either a posterior or uterine.

I have a mild posterior from where the back wall was over stretched by his bloody massive head as he got stuck trying to turn in my pelvis for hours. I can feel it and squish it backwards, like a big squishy tangerine. Posterior aren't really an issue though. Urterine prolapses, however, are.
