Nothing on feet...really?

There is a woman at my place of work who chooses not to wear footwear around the building. It’s not a particularly large building, not a building site office but a professional office. As soon as the sun comes out...off comes her shoes.

I find the whole thing rather distasteful. No-one else says a word, is it just me?

@GaynorGoodwin when was the last time that you washed the soles of your shoes?

Sparklingbrook · 14/05/2018 21:27

Bleurgh.

Your feet might be clean to start with but depending on where you work won't be for long.

Plus there's all sorts of things you could tread on. Wearing shoes at work is very sensible IMO.

Cliveybaby · 14/05/2018 21:44

Oh I do this... also wear slippers in winter indoors :)
Another reason to hate gender-neutral toilets; now I have to put my shoes on to go to the loo, to avoid the pee on the floor Envy

lljkk · 14/05/2018 21:46

I love going barefoot. Grew up barefoot all day outside.
Don't love the MN obsession with cleanliness.

Lilymossflower · 14/05/2018 21:55

I hate wearing anything on my feet indoors and if I worked in a place all day would do the same

Sparklingbrook · 14/05/2018 21:58

I certainly wouldn't fancy going in the loos at work barefoot.

I'm living in New Zealand at the moment and a lot of people walk around barefoot. Supermarkets, shops, banks etc. It's about 2 degrees at the moment so that bit I don't really get....!

GaynorGoodwin · 15/05/2018 07:12

@ArcheryAnne, having NOTHING on your feet is unhygienic, do at your peril, lol.

The loos at work although kept clean during the day at some points had unknown drops of liquid on the floor, bits of paper from tampon wrappers and tissues and assorted hairs lying about.

Bare feet? Not a chance!

ScreamingValenta · 15/05/2018 07:24

Not allowed ... elf 'n safety, innit? Wink

TheBogWitchIsBack · 15/05/2018 07:36

I love being barefoot and I do it as much as I can.
Unhygienic LOL

Olddear · 15/05/2018 07:39

I wouldn't walk round barefoot, especially since people don't wash the soles of their shoes! I'd be worried about they'd trodden on in the way in!

Voice0fReason · 15/05/2018 22:53

So it may be unhygienic for the person but wearing shoes (easily rectified by washing their feet at the end of the day) but it has absolutely no effect on anyone else.

Pebblesandsea · 15/05/2018 23:48

Please don’t let your kids walk barefoot outside. When I was about 8 I was walking barefoot along the pavement/road and stood on a still lit cigarette, badly burning the sole of my foot. It was agonising and didn’t heal for ages. Also glass and random poo - dog/duck/goose/fox/cat/rhino by the look of some of the piles - bloody everywhere in London!

Pinga · 16/05/2018 00:32

I genuinely dont get why some people think being barefoot is disgusting.

Feet get dirty yes but so do shoes. The dirt on feet is the same dirt that you would find on a shoe - less so in fact because shoes pick up all the dirt (dog poop!) off pavements.

As long as they are relatively clean and not sweaty whats the problem?

Olddear · 16/05/2018 14:14

Exactly! Shoes pick up 'dog poop' I don't want to walk barefoot after someone, wearing shoes, that may have picked that up!!
