About Songs of Praise?

Songs of Praise is just about to start. At 2.40pm.
It always used to be on around teatime on Sundays, and we always tuned in. I know I can tape it on a series link and watch when convenient to me.
But I feel it's like the BBC feel they have to make the show still to fulfill some Religious broadcasting quota, but then just slot it in in any place they can on a Sunday.
Shame, I think.

I have shown my parents how to use iPlayer so they watch it at the same time on a Sunday evening now they can't get to church. I don't know if that helps.

Is it the choir of the year final? Or is there some sport they're working round?

It should be on just before family dinner time, to signal the beginning of the end of the weekend and drive children away from the tv to finish their homework and locate their school shoes and PE kit.

HolidayHelpPlease · 13/05/2018 14:57

I thought it was only because it was young choir of the year, so is a longer episode?

LaceandChintz · 13/05/2018 15:11

Yes it's Choir of the Year so may be longer. But still much too early I think!
It can of course be moved a bit but unless there is a big event on (sporting things which always take priority sadly!) I think it should stay around 5 ish.

Followed by Antiques Road Show and Last of the Summer Wine.

I think it's exactly this! It has been moving earlier and earlier for years. I've no idea what viewing figures are like.

Shock that's still made?

Where I live now church services are broadcast on Sunday morning, to be watched in care homes it seems (I used to work in a care home and there was quite some I'll feeling between people who wanted the radio on during late breakfast and people who wanted the church service, and a few renegades who wanted a wildlife program always on at the same time...) but I thought that was a marker of previous generations in the UK, I'm quite surprised it's still on the BBC!

*ill not I'll

AnneProtheroe · 13/05/2018 15:20

Didn't know it was still on! :)

TomDonaldson · 13/05/2018 15:22

My mother used to sing along with the hymns, she was tone deaf.

havanagilahava · 13/05/2018 17:19

I'm not Christian myself, but I have an elderly blind neighbour who is Christian, and who loves to listen to Songs of Praise, but because it's never on at the same time, it's very difficult for her.

So my dd looks up the time every Sunday and goes to tell her. It would be a lot easier if it had a regular a lot though.
