Contact local vets, dog warden, post on local face book site. Hope you find them soon.

Abra1de · 13/05/2018 11:38

Plus twitter and Instagram

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 11:38

Use the doglost website, contact council dog warden ( may be an ooh number today) and ask around on Facebook, etc.

DaanSaaf · 13/05/2018 11:38

Lost dog, dog warden and Facebook. What area are you in? Search for Harvey's Army.

DaanSaaf · 13/05/2018 11:39

Slow typing there, sorry.

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 11:40

Don't call police, not a police matter.

PickettBowtruckles · 13/05/2018 11:40

Local Facebook groups - search your town if you’re not already a member of one and usually there are some. Post on as many Facebook things as you can, I found a dog last month and the chip details were outdated and he was in kennels for over a week as owner couldn’t be located. I eventually found the owner myself through looking on Facebook groups so they definitely help!

MojoMoon · 13/05/2018 11:40

Your council will have a dog warden. Register the details with them
www.gov.uk/check-council-missing-dog

If a nice member of the public finds them, they may take them to a nearby vet to get scanned.
Make sure you have kept your contact details up to date with the microchip company. If it is a landline, be home to take the call.

Use social media - is there was a local Facebook page or website for your neighbourhood?

PositivelyPERF · 13/05/2018 11:42

Don't call police, not a police matter.

It may not official be a police matter, but our local Police are still approached by people who have found or lost dogs, so they tend to make a note. It depends where you live and how busy they are.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 13/05/2018 11:43

If there are any houses or open businesses near where he bolted try knocking. They may have seen the dog or hopefully have managed to catch him.

Are you near home? He may have made his way back?

Hope you find your dog soon

SilverHairedCat · 13/05/2018 11:44

Get it on every Facebook page for your area.
If he hadn't turned up after an hour or so I'd call 10 let them know because they can then contact you if the dog turns up somewhere. I'm an ex police call handler (and copper) and this is a common call which makes their lives easier if your dog is running about in a road and they're struggling to catch it (endangering traffic etc).

PositivelyPERF · 13/05/2018 11:48

Post a photo on Facebook and make that post public, so it can be shared. I’m forever finding lost dogs (I’m a dog sitter). Facebook is the best venue for this.

Davros · 13/05/2018 11:51

Are you on Nextdoor? That is good for this sort of thing

ilovegin112 · 13/05/2018 11:51

Local taxi operators, local newspaper and radio websites

ilovegin112 · 13/05/2018 11:52

Meant to say hope you find him/her

SoupDragon · 13/05/2018 11:56

I leafelted the area when my dog escaped from the garden.

What sort of area are you in?

Whose number does he have on his collar tag?

Juanitajune · 13/05/2018 12:05

Which area are you in?

Hoopaloop · 13/05/2018 12:07

How is this reasonable or unreasonable? Surely the question should be "who do I contact when my dog has gone missing?"

PositivelyPERF · 13/05/2018 12:10

OP has probably posted here because it’s one of the most popular boards. No point in posting on a board with very little hits. Hope you find him soon, OP.

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 12:13

First of all - call the police and leave your details and dogs description, where he went missing etc - then if he does turn up - they’ll have your number and can immediately contact you. This happened to us last Saturday - we found a dog - called the local police immediately- his owners had done the same thing when he wandered away from their garden and down the fields - he was reunited within the hour.
Also as many others have said - doglost, local council pounds, out of hours dog warden - and flood social media.
Hope he turns up soon safe and sound Flowers

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 12:15

Once again....

DO CALL YOUR LOCAL POLICE - especially on a Sunday when council pounds and dog wardens are usually not available. The police will take your details and inform you if anyone finds him and contacts them.

ADishBestEatenCold · 13/05/2018 12:19

So sorry to hear this, HRoosevelt.

Blue Cross checklist.

  1. Call the microchip database they are registered with and report them as lost or stolen. Make sure your contact details are always up to date.
  2. Contact your local authority dog warden, via your local council – they are legally responsible for stray dogs and may well have picked up your pet. They will hold on to stray dogs for seven days but, after this time, dogs will be rehomed or put to sleep if no home can be found for them.
  3. Contact neighbouring local authorities too as dogs may move across local council borders
  4. Call local kennels/charities – it’s possible someone has found the dog and taken them to a local rehoming centre or kennels
  5. Contact local vet surgeries or animal hospitals – if your dog has been injured, they may have been taken there for treatment
  6. Check online lost and found websites and notice boards in your local area.
  7. Register your dog on DogLost, a free national database which is run by volunteers who will help you to search for your dog.
  8. If you think your dog might have been stolen, call the police. (note .. I know some people think you shouldn't inform police, but when I found two collies last year it was the police that told me that lost/found/possibly-stolen dogs should be reported on the non-emergency line).
  9. Put up notices in your local area with an up to date photo of your dog
10. Visit places where other dog walkers go and ask them to keep an eye out for your dog

Face Book can be hugely helpful ... put a picture on local sites, lost dog sites, canine clubs and specialist sites. People really do look, especially locally (in our area there is a person who will go out with a drone to check the area of loss).

I know someone who put some family clothes items (think smelly old t-shirt) in an open box, in the area of loss, in case her lost dog kept returning to that area, but missing her. (She added a notice with photograph, asking people not to move the box, and to help look).

Good luck, OP. Keep us posted. Thinking of you.

HRoosevelt · 13/05/2018 12:34

Thank you so much, we got him! Somebody took him to a vet, thanks for all your advice, really helpful
