To ask how some people get away with it?

I am currently getting really fed up with a work colleague who seems to manage to get away with doing nothing . I shouldn't let it bother me as I'm leaving here soon but still. They have had nearly a month off sick (always Monday's or Tuesdays if it a bank holiday) when they are here they play on their phone or sit staring into space. They get away with more than the me and the other person in the office for example they have headphones in all the time but when on a day where nothing much was happening I dared to put one in to listen to a book while working and got an ear bashing from the boss. When I pointed it out I got "ah well he's younger than you and you know how these youngsters are".

Maybe I'm just being miserable as is just me and him in this week and I seem to be doing everything. When the boss comes in he suddenly seems a bit more active but all he has done for the last 3 days is sit looking at his phone. We do the same job so it's not like he has less to do than me. It's just like he's invisible to the people in charge.

Oh well rant over but has anyone else experienced this?

Does he actually have work to do?

Yes we have loads of back dated stuff to get through. He just in his words "can't be assed"

I think some people are just selfish, look after themselves and it's just luck whether they land a job where anyone cares or notices.

Is there a way that his output can be shown? I mean, if you don't finish but can prove that you have done 80% of the work that day or something and then speak to management about it?

We've got two and it's so frustrating, one says she's a team player but she's always finding a reason to "help" someone out of the office just so she's not at her desk, management have started addressing the issue n the barbed comments from them both are hilarious, it took a new office manager to sort it though.

Yes its pretty obvious who's been working and who hasn't as we have to keep records of what we have done. He just seems to be overlooked most of the time. I sometimes wonder if it's just a case of they can't be bothered to look for someone else as there are only three people doing the office based work.
