To be annoyed at the greedy b's who keep buying up Boots Protect and Perfect and flogging it on Ebay?

All I want is 1 tube, yes ONE, and it sells out on Boots.com in seconds thanks to the greedy selfish bughers who put in multiple orders on different accounts which are really all theirs just so they can then profiteer it on Ebay?

I have a baby. That means I have genuine wrinkles. And no money. So I can't afford your s0dding £35 for a £16 tube of face cream. I don't mind you having a few, but ALL of them is just ridiculous. Aaaargh. I can just FEEL another wrinkle coming on!!

Oh there was a thread recently about the best moisturizers or something...and I am always shocked at the prices people are prepared to pay....lol...my moisturizer costs £0.89-£0.99 (depending if I go to Wilkinson or Asdas....)!
I remember, in my Nursing training I did a stint in Delievery Unit, and all teh Placentas were put into the freezer and then sold on (I believe) to some manufacturer that made creams like Placentobex....and the thoguht that women willingly smear Placenta all over the face, in the name of Beauty....shudder (and people make Jokes about Lentilweaver that plant a tree on a Placenta or that eat Placenta Pate, etc..., lol)! I suppose Botox isn't any better really...isn't that that Botulims Bacteria or something (could be barking at completely the wrong tree here, lol)

If this thread is more about the bar stewards profiteering on ebay, then I agree - I can't stand them either. I know it's a free market, blah di blah, but it is amoral to buy up all you can lay hands on to flip for a quick buck. Like the Anya Hindmarch Sainsburys bags, or the John Mayer tickets I couldn't get last year. They were selling for £20 each in the box office at a very intimate (2000 capacity) venue, and were sold out less than 24 hours after going on sale, (which in itself was fairly surprising as the gig was only announced on the website a couple of days beforehand). However, at least 200 of them found their way on to ebay for £180 per pair. How come? I thought touting was illegal. Isn't that why Glastonbury introduce more stringent anti- tout means of producing tickets every year? It's the same whether it's face cream, save the planet shopping bags or gig tickets. Makes me very

3andnomore · 17/05/2007 10:35

Oh Grumpy, I do agree with you there...

I've been using Protect and Perfect since before the hype and whilst I can't really judge whether or not it alters wrinkles it does feel very nice on your skin. I couldn't get P&P either so bought their Revive and Rewind instead, which is the same stuff.

NKF · 17/05/2007 14:38

There was something about in in the Bad Science column/blog in The Guardian. It's minimal improvement to the skin.

ArcticRoll · 17/05/2007 14:41

I've also been using the Refine and Rewind.
Feels nice but after finishing the bottle I don't think it has made any difference.

hifi · 17/05/2007 14:46

hv been using product since xmas, no difference.

I have no idea if the Boots cream works or not, but admit I've fallen for the hype and have been popping in - to no avail - every so often, to see if I can get a tube.

However, I would second what 3andnomore said about the water. I never used to drink water but as part of dieting for the last 5 months, have been drinking at least 2, and up to 4, litres a day. I really do think it's helped my skin immensely, as well as appearing to have pretty much blasted the old cellulite as well. On top of that, I swear that my lips, which were rather on the thin side, have plumped up.

blueshoes · 17/05/2007 14:53

I've given up on skincare products. Any ol' moisturiser will do for me. What is this hype? How come I don't know about it?

xenia, lol!

catsmother · 17/05/2007 14:54

Oh - and to go back to the original question, yes, it is damn annoying when people buy limited edition stuff that you can't find yourself and sell it on eBay, but that's inevitable.

But another way to look at it is that some of those buyers may be truly down on their luck and desperately need some extra cash. if you're in that situation and are lucky enough to be in possession of something others will pay a premium for, you're not going to pass up that opportunity are you ?

Judy1234 · 17/05/2007 16:03

People are so gullible about these things. It's fun to watch but presumably must be even more fun to take the profits.

The most profitable consumer product sold I think is pop corn in cinemas which I think can have a 500% mark up.

That drinks company selling bottled London tap water were doing rather well for a period too I think after their launch.

It reminds me of the Emperor's New Clothes but if these elixirs make people happy let us laugh at them and profit from their foolishness.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2007 16:05

Remember when that utter crap Johnson's HOliday Skin Body Lotion came out and people were making a bomb off it on Ebay?

Or how about those naffo Anya Hindmarsh bags week before last?

Or those naffo Kate Moss clothes?

My dad was right: there's a sucker born every minute.

pinballwizard · 17/05/2007 16:07

jewellery has a massive mark up sometimes as much as 500% too

PeachyChocolateEClair · 17/05/2007 16:07

Best options for aging skin (and yes I do have a related qualification, ITEC).

Avocado if not allergic- ripe one, mash, face pack

oats- this si the one I use it really works- put some in your hand (I think they're 40p a bag in tesco), ad some hand hot water, wait a fecs then use as a gentle scrub. Leave residue on for five minutes, remove by splashing with cold water (I do 20 splasshes)

Not THAT is cheap!

PeachyChocolateEClair · 17/05/2007 16:09

few secs

and NOW that is cheap

my typing getting worse

Judy1234 · 17/05/2007 16:28

Perfume too - if you get the marketing right they pay a fortune for the packaging, perceived exclusivity etc.

I've had people say I must be good because I'm expensive. It's an interesting issue - quality and price. Perhaps I need to market the most expensive bottled water in London as "Gold Brand" or something, pack it full of various vitamins and weight loss hoodia stuff and sell it at £20 a bottle as an exlir of long life but make it be very hard to get, queues, competitions to win some, exclusive supply agreement with Harrods etc.

3andnomore · 17/05/2007 17:59

lol Xenia, you mihgt be onto something...for whatever reason people really seem to think that expensive equals Quality....
Shows how well Brainwashing...I mena, advertising works....no surprise that tehy put so much money into it

In the end, it doesn't matter what ya put on your skin, it's how you nourish yourself from the inside.

mel36 · 26/10/2008 10:44

i absolutely agree with the drinking water idea.Although if you wanted to aid those benefits,The body shop sell something similar - with community traded ingredients, and all the other values and i'd be happy to do you 20% off -in fact anything else from The Body shop too.
let me know if interested
