Yawning

When did it become acceptable to yawn really loudly, with mouth wide open in public?

Today, fellow commuter standing less than a foot away from me - massive, open mouthed yawn.

I hate it and think it’s really bad manners. DH says I am IABU. Am I?

You should carry a bag of peanuts with you and every time you see someone yawn like that, throw one in! Grin

AlonsoTigerHeart · 10/05/2018 05:49

Its just a yawn.
its involuntary.

coolwalking · 10/05/2018 05:54

YANBU - it's like sneezing and coughing. You can do it discretely or make a big scene.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 10/05/2018 08:15

As far as I'm concerned it's only bad manners to yawn in someone's face when they're talking to you. Seeing someone yawn on the train or whatever wouldn't bother me one bit apart from making me want to yawn too.

Shrodingerslion · 10/05/2018 08:42

You its just a yawn.
its involuntary.

Kids do this at school it annoys me. Yes it is involuntary but its not involuntary to sound like a howling wear wolf. Theres a yawn and there is being obnoxious.

guiltynetter · 10/05/2018 08:44

is it only acceptable if you put your hand over your mouth? or are you not allowed to yawn at all?!

MrsWhirly · 10/05/2018 08:58

Lol - thanks. Are we all yawning now?

I thinking yawning is acceptable of course, and know it’s involuntary. But surely like coughing and sneezing you need to cover you mouth and try to minimise the noise.

Personally I think it’s bad manners.

Yes very bad manners not to cover your mouth. Agree OP.
