Influencer ethics on Instagram

MadameGrizzly · 09/05/2018 21:56

Continuing the discussion on whether influencing on Instagram is an ethical business model, particularly around the disclosure of advertising and the over exposure of children.

AIBU to think it isn't a sustainable career unless the influencer is scrupulously ethical?

Yes Dufypainting I think she did too, I remember thinking at the time it was a blatant advert but didn’t realise it was not allowed. Maybe she didn’t either.

Lol FlyingBird. It's just painful isn't it 🤡

Dufypainting · 10/05/2018 22:40

Yes cobrider I didn’t really see it as an ad just being honest about having it done......which I suspect many others wouldn’t admit too.

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 22:42

Ps FlyingBird, kelly slated MN over the previous thread and even made up a song for 'us'!

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 22:43

I think Kelly was just trying to get attention.

Dufypainting · 10/05/2018 22:46

One of the very few who are upfront and objective is Midlife Chic.

Reboot · 10/05/2018 22:55

My absolute favourite instagrammer is Allison Sadler. She is uplifting, funny, honest and has stuck to the original ethos of Instagram - to have fun, be spontaneous and creative. She’s wonderful.

Dufypainting · 10/05/2018 23:01

Reboot haven’t come across her. Always interested in find new Instagram accounts.

I unfollowed a few tonight based on their indignation about that.

RunMummyRun68 · 10/05/2018 23:09

My favourite is Claire Witt!!!

Rebecca meldrum used to be a favourite too, but not so much lately

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 23:10

Yes recommendations are great, thank you. (But I'm trying to stay off IG a bit more cos I think it's the SM equivalent of skittles).

Yep FlyingBird just odd wasn't it. There were a few who did it. I think they were trying to get traffic from a mention on MN. I think only MOFOD only got a big leap in followers from the threads. They are marmite - for every bad comment here, they seemed to gain loving followers. Maybe that's why #bullying was posted just before the bank hol....

Can I the process for instgrammers to be included into the ‘gang’? One account I like is Luludumas who seems to have gone from normal poster to being invited to London events, gifted from Finery, Wyse etc very quickly?

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 23:35

Hadn't heard of her Dufy. Love that dress. Had saved it in JL basket last week! better buy it before it sells out!

Agents/connections I assume push them into the in gang.

SurfingUSA · 10/05/2018 23:44

FlyingBird it took me a while to work out the 4 little legs 😆

I know a few SM influencer wannabes and they scare the shit out of me.

I think the reason the ones I know aren't successful is because they write terribly, spend every waking moment trying to take a damn picture. It's frustrating to be around them.

Once I met a professional SM Influencer who has a real organic following and is set up with a real agency--and I was surprised by how authentic she was, how she didn't need to stage her photos and how 'present' she was.

Bestbe · 11/05/2018 07:15

I wonder if when they all had dinner with Holly Branson if they were able to bring up Virgincate suing the NHS and getting an undisclosed settlement? Because they are all advocates of the NHS.

Bestbe · 11/05/2018 07:15

Virgincare even
