My uncle quit his job last October as he needed time to do some DIY around the house. I knew at the time because he lives with my grandma (who I am close to). He told me not to tell anyone as he's worried people will start to ask him to do free DIY/odd jobs for them if they know he's not working.
I didn't tell anyone in that time.
But my sister is about to buy her first car and she wants to put my uncle on the insurance as a secondary driver as that usually makes it cheaper (she would be the named driver). When you put secondary drivers on insurance you must enter their occupation. When my uncle became unemployed I took him off the insurance as it increased the premium by 100 quid.
She was going to put my uncle down with his old job as his occupation (as she didn't know he'd quit). I told my uncle he needs to tell her the truth, as having incorrect information on her insurance could harm her if she has to claim. He said he didn't want to tell her. My sister was about to pay for her insurance so I felt I had to tell her as incorrect insurance is no joke. I used to work in insurance which is why I know everything must be 100%.
My uncle is now angry as the family now knows. Was I wrong to tell my sister? I just didn't want her to get in trouble with the insurance company as they pick at anything.
