AIBU to feed the ducks?

We’ve been getting 2 feathery little visitors recently and I have been putting seeds out for them. DH thinks I am doing more harm than good as he thinks it’s making them lazy and they should be out finding their own food.
I can’t help it though! They are so cute when they come quacking at my window wanting their dinner. He’s drawn the line at making a duck house in the front garden Grin

So AIBU? Should I leave them to fend for themselves?

I just have fat pigeons. I think Salvador and Sienna are having an affair though because they kinda do the sat on adjacent posts but look shifty and if you go out one flies off. I for sorry for Sally.

Demelza and Demitri?

I'm not sure if a dog kennel would be a good idea. Not unless you can dig a moat...

The thing about duck houses is, they're meant to go in the middle of a pond. Being in an enclosed space that a predator such as a fox could get into but the duck couldn't fly out of might not be such a good idea.

I'd call the male Sir Francis.

I lived in a house with river frontage a few years ago and fed all manner of birds. I had 2 swans that ending up eating out of my hand soon enough. Also had a female duck that used to bring her new ducklings over every time she had them. It was lovely. Your dh is a miserable git.

OP if theyre crossing a road please stop feeding them. They will eventually get hit by a car. We see this outside our flats all the time because some git upstairs wont stop feeding them :(

This will out me but... I have ducks! Wild ducks who visit me every year from early spring to mid summer. They come for bird seed and to chill out on the lawn in peace and quiet away from the crowds at the River. It’s nice in a.... they constantly make noise and it regularly turns into a duck version of Jeremy Kyle... kind of way.

''Do any other birds like peas? ''

Woodpigeons love them, but so do squirrels.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2018 20:35

Thanks - I don't mind squirrels - we aren't overrun with them here. Smile

I was watching QI last night and it made me think of this thread!

Apparently ducks dont quack, apart from female Mallards!

@WorraLiberty
*Is your DH a Mumsnetter?

He'll be suggesting the ducks need to cook from scratch, next.*

Male ducks have ballistic, corkscrew shaped penises.

Female ducks have reinforced, corkscrew shaped vaginas.

You’re welcome.

We are currently at 7 broods of ducklings at the farm where my horse lives. Getting hard not to stand on them as they follow you around.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/05/2018 08:00

Ducks love meal worms.

My pet ducks used to live in a dog kennel, they are a good choice.

Our office has a couple of resident ducks a few years back. There were some very deep and serious conversations about what was best to feed them and how to avoid everyone over feeding them Grin
