to object to this dreadful Primark changing room policy?

I needed some shorts and Manchester Primark is handy, however at the fitting room the staff were searching every item. So they took the items off people at the entrance, and item by item the staff shook them and felt inside them, then counted them out loud to another staff member who checked and you then had a ticket with the number of items on and could enter. I was gobsmacked. The queue was horrendous. On the way out I'm afraid I didn't want to play so just dumped the items on the member of staff who shouted at me 'wait a moment I haven't checked these'. Aibu to just walking out vowing to never return? They made me feel like a thief and there are other value shops who don't treat their customers this way. Apparently it's a new policy introduced 3 weeks ago . . ..

Wow! 10, do you find it’s the same people time and time again?

HildaZelda · 08/05/2018 22:23

I hope you were proud of yourself when you 'dumped the items on the member of staff' Hmm

MancUnicorn · 08/05/2018 22:32

Can anyone else confirm this happens in other areas?
I've only ever had the items shaken and counted. Not pockets and what-not. It's been more than 3 weeks since I've gone to Manchester Primark, but I've been to a few others and they've not searched pockets

A very 'Out-There' suggestion, but as it's coming up to the anniversary of the MEN bombing, could it be to do with that (again, why I'm asking if others know of this being rolled out in other areas)?

I know a fair few people who work/ed at Primark, that 6/10 stat definitely sounds plausible!

They've obviously got fed up with people stealing stuff. Since having my purse stolen in a Primark, I don't shop there.

Why anyone would steal from Primark beats me too. But apparently they do.

LoniceraJaponica · 08/05/2018 22:35

They do this in Meadowhll as well. Shoplifters have caused this problem. If you don't want to feel that you are being treated like a criminal I suggest you shop online instead.

I think if Associated British Foods have such a problem with shoplifting they should tag their clothes, employ more security in the form of unmarked security staff, improve the layout of their stores so they are less friendly to shoplifters, and stop using plastic hangers. This new policy will without doubt impact their profits because they will lose a number of their shoppers who can afford to use other stores with a more customer friendly approach so yet again the poor get shit service. To the people who comment about Primark using sweatshops, do you really think higher end shops don't use sweatshops? They just collect a bigger profit per item rather than the 'stack em high sell em cheap' approach of Primark. Their shareholders won't be too happy when their profits take a hit as I think they will. I think I'll ban myself anyway. ☺

I wouldn’t shop in Primark then OP, sounds horrible, in our local Next you can just go in and try on, no assistants counting there, also WhiteStuff, Joules and Fatface, much more pleasant experience.

I have never shopped at primark due to ethical reasons. This thread highlights even more so why I will avoid the flu
