AIBU?

To think that if you sell overpriced cosmetics in a pyramid selling sham you should just say so

Instead of wasting people's time with your chat about being a 'self employed internet based networking manager' to which people obviously say 'what does that involve?' Which leads into a long pishy chat about arbon. No thank you. I do not want to buy a £15 roll on deodorant that smells of mint even though it lasts for a decade. My 99p sure roll on is just dandy and I don't think I've ever seen 'too much cotton fresh scented roll on applied to armpits' on a death certificate.

I really actually initially thought she was friendly & cool, and a potential new mum friend and now I think I'll avoid.

AIBU?

YANBU but most of the time the people selling the stuff are as much victims as the people buying it

it's the over zealous attitude that annoys me
I know someone who posts constant shite about Arbonne crap , she used to be a good friend until she was brainwashed.

I'm amazed you got a price. And not pm me hun to all 5 people asking the same question 😂

I knew the price of this one thing from a party I previously made my excuses and left early went too .. I used my £20 for a kebab on the way home.

I'd love to see these scams outlawed. As a PP said, often the people selling it are the worst victims - bullied and brainwashed to keep pouring money into the company for what is usually dodgy, overpriced crap that none of their friends want to buy.

I doubt the sellers themselves think it’s a scam, they’ve probably been taken in by the cult

We have one of those younqe? Women at school it’s all she posts about on bloody fb and her friend that are also parts of other schemes. I just stick to politeness when near but avoid when possible.

Awful aren't they. The whole thing is based on lies.
You have to ask yourself- if the product is so good, why isn't it on the shelves of Boots like everything else?

Forever, arbonne, temple spa, Herbalife, Cambridge, partylite, scentsy....it’s bloody endless

Ugh, I hate them. Unfortunately my cousin bumps from one to another. It's currently something like "Partyrite". I'm not sure, as I unfollow her regularly for my own sanity.

And I tend to ask Mods on Gossip Girl / Facebook local selling pages whether they would agree not to allow MLM advertising... Generally they've agreed and it's become part of the T&Cs of lots of such pages I've seen now (not all because of me!!).

Is Avon one?

yanbu

It seems like it's aiming for people who is desperate to find work by ripping their friends and family off because it's hard for them to say no thanks.

Eugh. I'm with you.
I can't stand all this #bossbabe nonsense about people empowering their teamies.

Avon and body shop at least have decent prices and really good products so I don't mind that as much - it's the ones that have over priced products that are clearly marked up as mostly commission for folks higher up the pyramid and not because they are on par with creme de lamer

Is Temple Spa MLM? I’m surprised it’s usually in fancy hotels and airlines, I think Harrods are the only retailer in the UK (unless you order online).

I hate this too. Feels quite manipulative.

I know of someone who used her husband having quite a major car crash as material for her ‘I love being my own boss, I can always be here for my family AND make loads of money’ promotional drivel on FB. I avoid anyone involved with these schemes.

Arbonne? Total crap. Went to a party simply to support my friend and had to bite my nurses tongue not to either laugh out loud or argue with the ridiculous health claims and completely untrue nonsense.

My friends friend who flogs this crap posts many before and after pics in her Facebook and I swear to God she looked far better before then after and I am so tempted to just post that but am too nice Grin

And the price of it???? Ffs who on earth buys it?? Mad.

Shock that pretty vulgar. I know that some people will have not many other choices but to work in that manner from home etc, but it really is a lot of sacrifice for not much return, unless your the one driving the white Mercedes Confused

It makes me angry as the people sucked into selling it basically lose all their friends and we start to avoid them like the plague rather than guilt buy expensive tosh!

Yes! I have a —Facebook— friend who has jumped from one to the next. Each with the same passion and #femaleboss lines. Currently on Usborne books.

Just to add (forgot as I nearly fell off my chair when it turns out Temple Spa ARE MLM. I’m shocked!) I avoid these people at all costs. Friend from school peddles Younique and I was sick to death of the “I bleed purple” or “waaaaahhh! How good is this mascara?!” shit that I stopped following her. According to a mutual friend, she’s just been on an ‘overseas seminar’. FFS. Still has her day job though....

My ex-bosses daughter got involved with Juice Plus and Youniqe about 18 months ago, never mentions either now. Pissed me off being added to ‘secret’ groups.

miss
Temple Spa is also an MLM, but judging by my friends who sell it they are a bit more chilled out.

I've never seen Temple Spa sellers do the:

  • inspirational quotes
  • PM me huns for more info
  • refuse to answer questions on their page
  • always going on about how amazing their company is and how they cam have a car

I find that usually people seem to jump from one MLM company to the next. It saddens me that they don't learn what a scam it is until they've lost loads of money, time, effort and friends. Should be banned.

I was just waylaid today by a Mum at school who was talking so enthusiastically about another Mum selling Younique. Don't even know the seller but she's brainwashed everyone in our town into sharing her terrible live makeup tutorial videos

I had to ask if SHE was going to start selling it as she was raving about how amazing it was.

She's now added me into some hideous Facebook group and says I really MUST come to the next event.

Honestly it's a cult
