To think that by now someone should have invented a clothes horse/airer that isn't a total dick

Just had a fight with mine, during which it tried to eat my fingers several times and which ended with me kicking the motherfucker clear accross the kitchen. Now my toes hurt and it's definitely acquired a lopsided tilt. Sob.

agreed mine looks drunk

MaverickSnoopy · 08/05/2018 18:29

You need the heated one from Lakeland. It's so sturdy and doesn't fall apart. It has little racks that create shelves for the clothes. Not sure if their normal ones have the same design or not.

Faithless12 · 08/05/2018 18:30

Lakeland one is a winner here as well.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 08/05/2018 18:31
Grin

Mine collapses on me and traps my fingers so I have to try and free one hand with the other whilst preventing the whole thing falling over and breaking my fingers. Grin laundry is fun.

Saltcrust · 08/05/2018 18:32

I am so with you on this op - one of my all time bugbears - deckchairs, ironing boards and clothes horses all try to eat me. I bloody hate faddling about with them!

PickAChew · 08/05/2018 18:34

I love mine but it's seen better days and I've been trying and failing for years to find a suitable replacement. They're all so bloody flimsy.

formerbabe · 08/05/2018 18:35

Like others have said you need the Lakeland heated airer...life changing!

EscapistTendencies · 08/05/2018 18:36

Death traps, the lot of them. I sort of kick mine to get it down and jump back quickly. My outside rotary dryer isn't much better, I have to duck and run when collapsing it. Gap in the market definitely.

LassoOfTruth · 08/05/2018 19:28

Glad it's not just me Grin
Also, my little rant was worth it as the wisdom of MN has shown me a better way ... Sounds like the Lakeland drier would actually improve my quality of life. Thanks helpful posters!

Lakeland one here too - it’s my favourite household gadget!

ToadOfSadness · 08/05/2018 19:37

The Lakeland one is NOT that sturdy, it has little plastic clips to hold the shelf bits which you need to be careful not to snap and it wobbles, in my case, a lot. You need to be able bodied enough to reach into the centre without leaning on the shelves as it will break if you put pressure on.

The rungs are close together so if you hang stuff traditionally on them it takes an age to dry and the recommendation elsewhere is to lay it flat on the shelves which means you can't get as much on it.

Not much use in summer unless you have a warm room or intend to switch it on and use it heated. I used mine a lot until I got a tumble dryer, had to use it a lot in order to dry bedding as it took ages to dry when folded.

I have one of the cheap IKEA airers that opens like a kind of table, it doesn't give me trouble, and a concertina one (tall) which will try to fight me when I close it, so I leave it open in a corner.

ScottLang · 08/05/2018 19:38

I'm sure ours is now self-aware, and has ingested so much blood and human skin from my fingers that it has a taste for human flesh..

SneakyGremlins · 08/05/2018 19:38

Mine is amazing! because it's in a box in the attic

Allreadygone · 08/05/2018 19:46

They were probably all designed by men, who obviously know nothing about such things so why not design and market a 'superior' clothes airer?
My IKEA one is great if you only have 4 pairs of socks and wear protective gloves when setting it up.

FesterAddams · 08/05/2018 20:05

This one is quite sturdy. Not cheap, and takes up a fair bit of room though.

I have the one my granddad made my mum as a wedding present in 1959.

It's fantastic.

madeyemoodysmum · 08/05/2018 20:14

Mines a Lakeland but not the heated one. It's good though. Loads of space between bars for longer items. Fits loads on and really sturdy and strong.

Pythone · 08/05/2018 20:14

I have this one and it's great - no bits that pinch your fingers!

I gave my Lakeland heated airer away. I hated it.

FireandBrimstone · 08/05/2018 20:23

I use a stand that's supposed to be for ironed clothes. Laundry comes straight out the machine, put onto hangers which are hung on this: www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8505466.htm
Loads of hanging space and much less sore on toes.

PotteryLady · 08/05/2018 21:15

Lakeland heated one is amazing - couldn't live without it

UpstartCrow · 08/05/2018 21:39

Somebody bought me this. I think they may secretly hate me.
