To not understand how to get school dinner out of uniform!!

Abneyandteal19 · 08/05/2018 15:55

So DS1 who is 2.8 started at a nursery attached to a school in Jan 3 mornings a week but has just started staying for lunch too.

He has to wear the school uniform which includes a pale blue polo shirt.

Everyday he eats well but being 2 he gets a lot of dinner down his shirt!! (He still wears a bib for 'messy' food at home eg Bolognase shepherd pie etc)

No one at nursery seems to wear a bib and clearly I want him to feed himself so don't want to give him one but how on earth do you get the stains out the polos?!? Especially the orange stains?? I bought marks and Spencer polos but after soaking them in vanish they got white sort of bleach marks all over them!! I bought 'stain resist' ones from marks and just washed normally and still stains!! DS has eczema so usually use fairy non bio and softener on 30 wash,

How do school mums do it?? At this rate I'll be buying a pack of shirts a week!!!

Advice please!!!

Vanish pre wash stain remover is your friend here.

scurryfunge · 08/05/2018 15:57

Increase the wash temperature.

PandaG · 08/05/2018 15:59

Send him in stained shirts if you can't shift it, it is one good thing about school uniform, home clothes don't get ruined at school.

Soak for a couple of hrs in napisan and then add more to the wash (its non bio), wash at 40, dry in sun if you can.

Korg · 08/05/2018 16:00

40 wash with biological powder.

steppemum · 08/05/2018 16:02

well, we just keep using the shirts, they are obviously washed and stained, not actually dirty.
After few washes it comes out.
I always spray vanish pre wash on them now, but they are white shirts, so don't bleach, no experience with blue.

Agree with PP though, I would wash at 40, in my experience no food stains come out at 30, but they do at 40.

Ace stain remover I swear by it if it’s tomato sauce based put washing up liquid on it first

CoffeAndCream · 08/05/2018 16:08

Hang on the line in sunlight - the stains will fade away!
(works on most orange stains)

HighwayDragon1 · 08/05/2018 16:22

Yeah wash and ignore here too. Keep a nice one for photo days!

AmazingGrace16 · 08/05/2018 16:45

hang outside. Doesn't matter if it's not direct sunlight stains will bleach out.

Neverender · 08/05/2018 16:53

Use the pre-wash spray but don't leave it on for too long (like, overnight) before washing in the machine - it bleached out all of the colour!

RomeoBunny · 08/05/2018 16:57

Wash with Daz and a proper stain remover then rewash with Fairy. Non bio will never get stains out.

RomeoBunny · 08/05/2018 16:58

Oh and 30° does piss all for stains or any proper washing actually. It's gross how minging it leaves clothes.

jedenfalls · 08/05/2018 17:01

Accept defeat now and life will be easier.

Clean stained stuff is fine for school, and as pp said keep one clean one back for photos.

If anyone questions it, you are doing your bit for the environment. Cool wash, no harsh chemicals. Go green!

RedSkyAtNight · 08/05/2018 17:01

Just accept they will be stained (good practice for white board pen when he starts school!)

jedenfalls · 08/05/2018 17:02

(But yeah, non bio and washing at 30 degrees will do knack all )

Littlebelina · 08/05/2018 17:04

I do a wash that has a "prewash setting" and put bio in the prewash and non bio in the normal bit. ds doesn't get eczema (I am careful with his skin as I get it) though so you might want to do two separate washes. Pre treat bad stains with vanish and dry in the sun if at all possible. By the end of summer term though most of his (white) shirts have some stains on them. I just learn to live with them until the next school year.

jensner · 08/05/2018 17:04

Definitely hang in the sunlight - works wonders on tomato based stains in particular! And it's free and won't irritate anyone's skin! Smile

user1471451866 · 08/05/2018 17:08

Agree with leaving in sunlight. The stains disappear completely.

Namajesty · 08/05/2018 17:11

I use non bio and have never had any problems with stains. Never had to pre soak or treat anything either not that I know how to anyway. I do a 60 wash and make sure there is a bit of extra room in the drum. And no quick cycles, that just wets the clothes Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 08/05/2018 17:17

The liquid vanish in the bottle with the rubbing top bit is amazing. It took months old gravy stains out of DS's nursery jumper, I'd tried lots of thing and nothing else had shifted it.

I have no idea what they put in the gravy but they could use it to paint the Forth bridge and it would be done forever.

whoami24601 · 08/05/2018 18:10

Vanish soap bar hasn't let me down yet (when I remember to use it Hmm) just rub into the pre wash and wash as normal. I use soap nuts and gentle fabric softener as have an eczema prone child too. Never had a problem!

whoami24601 · 08/05/2018 18:11

rub into the stain pre wash that should have said!

Homemenu1 · 08/05/2018 18:19

Hanging out in the sun does help get rid of stains
