Simple things that hit your memory/nostalgia button?
Things that take me right back:

The smell of limes
Airplane trails at dawn or dusk
Hearing seagulls from in bed
Lawnmowers on summer days
A weird one: an open window with curtains gently flapping

The sound of tories crying when they have just lost an election. That's the sound I most miss.

What a lovely thread!

Opium, my mother's perfume

slurry (takes me back to childhood in the country!)

Ginger-nuts and galaxy caramels I used to feed to my pony

The smell of 2 stroke and freshly cut grass
The smell of warm creosote
The sound of a distant petrol mower
The sound of cicadas (so exotic on our first trip to America when I was 6) - hearing them on holiday always brings the same excitement.
The sound of tent zips being done up/ undone
The smell of Old Spice aftershave, it reminds me of my friend’s dad who I adored
The occasional waft of Marlborough Lights and lager reminds me of 6th form nights out and early snogs.

Oh yes to wood pigeons here too. I used to hear them dawn and dusk in my bedroom growing up.

Definitely waking up in the middle of the night to the shipping forecast (my parents played Radio 4 all night long) before drifting back to sleep. Oh and The Archers theme tune.

Ah, Aramis. I love it so much that I use it now. Old Spice reminds me of my late father.
The first time we went abroad we used Delial (?) sunscreen & I can still smell it now when I think of Paxos.
Creosote-so many mentions on here, but I don’t get to sniff many fences these days; has it fallen out of use?
My Madeleine song is ‘That’s Entertainment’. It’s just all of the above.

Rowntree raspberry jelly cubes. Straight back to my childhood kitchen in a house we left when I was 7.

@BrightonCalling my dog barking in the distance at dusk is a bit more specific than that.

On the way back from a Greek island holiday I had time to kill in Athens so went to the son et lumiere at the Acropolis. Light was fading and the wonderful smells of that city were on the warm evening breeze. A lone dog's muffled bark was carried up from somewhere on the outskirts of the city. It was like they were claiming the evening for themselves and that has stayed with me 35 years on.
