To think it’s really annoying when a car parks right next to your car in an almost empty car park

Is it just me or does anyone else find this really irritating, parked my car in the almost empty garden centre carpark, which has about 100 spaces, I parked in the furthest away corner to avoid people who need to park near to the entrance, yet when I returned to my car someone had parked right next to me, so close I struggled to get in the car, there were still only a few cars in the carpark!

I don't get it either. I had just put all my shopping in the car one day and a bloke in a white van parked so close to me I wasn't able to open the door when there were loads of other spaces. I did ask him how the hell he expected me to get into my car. He smirked, laughed and walked off. I got in the passenger side and climbed over fuming.

This really my gears as well! And it's not just in car parks - go to a beach/pool when on holiday , get settled on the Sunbed - loads of empty ones about and the family from hell ALWAYS chooses the beds right next to you ! I call it only car in the car park syndrome .

YADNBU! Last week we went to a restaurant for lunch and were the first people there and it was "please seat yourselves". A family came in a few minutes later and sat right next to us! Shock The entire restaurant was empty. I can't understand what is wrong with some people.

Glassofredandapackofcrisps · 06/05/2018 18:07

Yes drives me barmy.

OliviaStabler · 06/05/2018 18:53

Olivia, i wonder do they have a thought process, I have wanted to ask sometimes when it happens to me and I see the driver, but I don’t want to appear rude or aggressive , but would love to have an insight to why people do it

I don't understand either. Surely it is common courtesy to give people space if there is plenty going free?

It used to happen to me at Tesco's. I used to park early on Sunday morning far away from the entrance. I find their parking spaces a bit small so I liked to drive into a space so the boot was easily accessible for loading and then reverse out.

A few times I'd get back to the car and some idiot had parked right next to me. Rows and rows of empty spaces all around but no, they park right next to me.

Another time I had to hire a car for a family emergency and all they had was a 4x4. While using the vehicle I had to get some food for the house so went to Tesco and parked well away from everyone else as the car simply couldn't fit inside the white parking lines. I shop, come back, and two bar-stewards had parked either side of me. Loads of empty bays everywhere but no, they had to park next to me. Asshats.

That's weird. I've never really noticed anyone doing that. It would wind me up. Fortunately I live in such a crowded city that it's quite rare ever to be in a nearly-empty car park!!

I admit that I do park next to other cars myself sometimes if spaces aren't marked out and if I expect it to get busy later, so as to make best use of the space for the people who arrive later. Example: small gravelled car park at rail station, no white lines to indicate bays. If I don't park either at the very edge of the car park (which I will if possible) or else next to another car, there is a risk that I might inadvertently leave, say, 2.8 spaces between me and the other car. This means fewer cars will fit into the car park. I get annoyed if a car park I want to use is full up with cars sprawled all higgledy-piggledy with massive gaps between them - if they'd all parked properly then there would have been space for me!

FluffyPineapple · 07/05/2018 03:19

YANBU. Why do people have to park right next to another car - and usually not straight - when there are multiple spaces available. And why do people have to sit at a table right next to someone when the restaurant is near enough empty? Don't get me started on the family from hell who have to sit right next to you on a large, empty beach! There is nothing like having a rare, day out with the family only to find yourself unable to escape from the vulgar language from the family from hell plus the incessant barking from their unruly dogs plus the annoying screams from their unruly kids.. and then they light a disposable bbq.... just Why?

As soon as you find a nice, peaceful spot you have to move because some fucker thinks you want him and his fucking revolting, obnoxious family to keep you company on your few hours off work. Bastard!

woollyheart · 07/05/2018 11:00

Probably most people are more sociable than you, and like to be close to other people. I think it is automatic. I am not particularly social, and would sit away from others in a restaurant. Thinking about it, I would probably line up parallel to other cars in a car park but would leave a space between if possible. Not sure why though!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 07/05/2018 11:00

My car gets lonely if I leave it on its own.

Sirzy · 07/05/2018 11:02

The only time it annoys me is when I am trying to get ds in or out of his chair and someone decides to park next to me making it much harder rather than using one of the million other spaces

AnnieOH1 · 07/05/2018 11:16

Are you sure it wasn't a case that the area you've parked while not being a staff car park is where staff are expected to park? Our local Tesco has an area at the farthest point that very obviously is staff parking there as it is always the same cars. Doesn't explain the too close bit though.

Springersrock · 07/05/2018 11:19

YANBU!

We were out with dog yesterday, stopped off at Tesco to get some drinks and snacks

We pull into a half empty car park, DH and kids went into shop, I stayed in car with dog with all the car doors open.

Someone pulled into the space right next to us, so I had to shut the car doors. The entire row we were parked in was empty FFS

freddomonster · 07/05/2018 11:34

YANBU! Drives me crazy especially when I have a huge baby bump and the other day had to climb over the passenger side because they'd parked so close! Angry

I find this happens in doctors surgeries too. Recently there was an empty waiting room, (very rare sight) I sat far from the doors, in the corner completely out the way and then some inconsiderate arsehole sat on the seat next to me coughing and spluttering at me. Didn't even turn away. They looked most put out when I moved seats!

Zacjosh · 07/05/2018 12:40

It’s obviously not limited to a car parking issue then, I wouldn’t say I anti-social but I do value my personal space

OP posts:
Zacjosh · 07/05/2018 12:41

No, it definitely wasn’t a staff parking area, that’s a separate area, and the driver was definitely a customer

I get this when using public toilets.
I will tend to go to the furthest away cubicle in a complete row of empty ones and without fail somebody will come in and use the one right next to me.

greathat · 07/05/2018 13:11

Yup I'm also irritated when I'm behind a car that enters the car park and it blocks the way by spending 10 mins reversing into a space... when the adjacent space is empty so it could pull straight through! Always find it weird people reversing into spaces into supermarkets and then struggling massively to get to their boot to put the shopping in...
