Thomson Dreamliner & seat reservations - arse about face!

Logged in to my First Choice Booking this morning, with a view to maybe reserving seats for a long haul trip. My DH is quite tall, so extra legroom would be nice.

I have the option to purchase extra "space" (that's a new one) or extra legroom seats. There is no way to see the plane layout. You have to purchase the extra legroom first, then you will get to see what seats are left.

This does not suit really, as if I buy the seats and then see that there are no extra legroom seats left together, or they are next to the loos, I don't want them.

Called First Choice, who advised me there's no way to see the seat plan before you pay, and if I pay and then don't like what's left, I can cancel, but there will be an admin fee.

AIBU to think that this is absolutely nuts?!

Try googling the layout of a dreamliner. They're bound to be of similar layout I would think.

Seatguru will show you the seating for the dreamliner. It's most likely a boeing 787.

But yes you should be able to see what seats are left before you pay for extra leg room

The extra leg room seats are the first 5 rows (3 seats per row) near the toilets at the back of the plane 😊 at least they were when we travelled on the dreamliner in January

Hi, I always message tui on Facebook and they are always really helpful. I’ve just booked for Mexico and they told me in advance which seats were available.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/05/2018 15:24

On a Thomson flight the extra space seats are the bulkheads and the ones near the exits. Children and people with mobility problems can’t reserve them.

They have extra legroom seats within the plane, on our flight (not a Dreamliner) it’s rows 3,4 & 5 and you get an extra 2 inches of room. Anyone can reserve them.

Echo previous posters who say try Seatguru. It’s very useful. By the way, a Dreamliner IS a Boeing 787 aircraft.

TeisanLap · 06/05/2018 15:34

i Suspect if you pay for the extra leg room you’ll only be shown extra leg room seats to chose from. I doubt they’d take your money them say there’s none left so you have to take an ordinary seat instead.

Seatguru is your friend. Surely if you're able to purchase the extra legroom seats then you'll have a choice of those seats with the extra room.

As these seats are either next to the galley or bathroom, it is immaterial which are still available.

I'm told that the seats are very good on 787s. Hardly any rats.

NormskiNamechange · 06/05/2018 15:38

On the Dreamliner (Boeing 787) Thomson (or TUI as they are now known) have two different categories of extra legroom seats.

There is the back cabin (row 31 back) which has up to two inches extra. Anyone can sit in these seats. Then there is row 10 and row 30 (I think it is row 30 - it might be row 31). These are the bulkhead seats.

Be careful with row 30, as people congregate in the area in front of these seats in the queue for the toilet. This may not bother you but it’s something that you should consider.

I love the Thomson Dreamliner but we fly premium as I’m very tall and a little bit claustrophobic.

Completely bonkers not to show you what's available before you pay IMO.
Easyjet can manage it so not sure why other airlines can't.

TeisanLap · 06/05/2018 15:41

Op, you’ll neee to know if it’s the 787-8 or the 797-9

Tequilamockinbird · 06/05/2018 15:54

Extra space are better than extra legroom IMOz we fly TUI regularly on the Dreamliner.

Also worth seeing how much the premium seats are. Sometimes they aren't that much more than the extra leg room, but they're fantastic and well worth the upgrade!
