Think it’s gross to not wear a top in the gym?

There was a man in my gym this morning, doing weights with no top on.

Surely this is gross?

No what’s “gross” about it Confused

chickendrizzlecake · 06/05/2018 10:16

Doesn’t your gym have a policy about this? Along with policies about towels and wiping down machines and stuff?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 06/05/2018 10:16

Did he have a good body?
It's only the same as a woman wearing one of those teeny tiny bra tops isn't it? I'd find it hard to get worked up over tbh.

chickendrizzlecake · 06/05/2018 10:18

In my experience it’s not correct gym etiquette, but it’s almost 10 years since I belonged to a gym so maybe it’s acceptable these days?!

DuchyDuke · 06/05/2018 10:20

Most gyms don’t mind if they have a good body, even if there is a policy, as it’s good ‘advertising’ during gym inductions.

eurochick · 06/05/2018 10:20

It's usually against gym rules. It's certainly against gym etiquette.

Aragog · 06/05/2018 10:20

Not allowed at my gym. Rules say that everyone should be appropriately dressed and that everyone needs a top. Sports tops for women are worn but as these tend to be more like a fitted cropped top rather than a bra shape I think that's probably fine. Only ever seen a couple of women in just them as most have a looser top over it.

Idontdowindows · 06/05/2018 10:22

Usually gyms have a rule about wearing tops and putting towels on the equipment/wiping the equipment down.

divadee · 06/05/2018 10:23

For me it depends what kind of gym it is. I have been a member at one of the chain gyms and it would of been frowned upon. But the best gym round here is a bodybuilders/boxing gym and no-one would bat an eyelid in there. To be honest at the boxing gym no-one would probably notice either as they are too engrossed in their own workout.

TheStoic · 06/05/2018 10:23

Would be against the rules in my gym. As would be a woman with no top on.

blackteasplease · 06/05/2018 10:23

I agree it's usually against the rules for everyone. Means less sweat to wipe off the equipment I guess. Also then they don't have to get into "is this fair?" cos nobody is allowed without a top.

BigGreenOlives · 06/05/2018 10:25

Somebody spraying sweat on machines & equipment. Usually gyms have a policy that tops and shoes should be worn (lower half covering eg shorts is assumed).

Whatalovelymug · 06/05/2018 10:27

Not pleasant. I don’t like men without tops after being leaned over in a supermarket. I can still feel the sweaty flesh on my arm. Envy (vom)

saucepot8 · 06/05/2018 10:35

I wouldn't mind if he had a good body.Blush

echt · 06/05/2018 10:38

It's naff, and against most gym rules.

I think it looks shite and try-hard on runners along the beachside road where I live.

Loving the good body rationalising. Hmm

LockedOutOfMN · 06/05/2018 10:39

Not allowed at my gym.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 06/05/2018 10:43

Good body or not, I don't want to see anyones's nipples anywhere except the beach or the swimming pool. 🤢

I'm with you OP, it's gross.

WomaninGreen · 06/05/2018 10:45

Never been a member of a gym that allows this
Have you checked the rules?

CharltonLido73 · 06/05/2018 10:45

Totally gross.

daisychain01 · 06/05/2018 10:55

I'd say something at the gym reception, so they are aware.

It isn't acceptable, the person either doesn't know and needs to be told or is too selfish to have bothered to abide by gym etiquette.

Women don't go in the gym bra-less and no top. Men should too, simple as.

Just another example of me, me, me - people who just don't get how to behave in public.

daisychain01 · 06/05/2018 10:56

Wear a top, that is, not go bra less with no top dooooh Grin

esk1mo · 06/05/2018 10:58

as PP said, depends on the gym. chain gyms dont usually allow it, same with taking off shoes when deadlifting, using towels etc. but independent old school gyms dont seem to mind.
