To use a cross trainer in a flat.

I bought a cross trainer yesterday and it's a little noisy. I can hear the tv over it and have a conversation when I am using it. I am on the ground floor and have one person above me. Is it ok to use it through the day. I am only going to use it between the hours of 10am and 6pm and it would be at the most an hour. AIBU to do this when I live in a flat.

I don't see why not. I used to use mine when I lived in a flat and I was in the middle, so someone above and below me. No one ever said they could hear it.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2018 12:32

I wouldn’t have and issue, particularly ground floor there’d be less people heading it. I can’t see it being much different to a tumble dryer in noise.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/05/2018 12:32

*hearing

Angie169 · 05/05/2018 12:36

I do not think it would be a issue , but perhaps you should ask your neighbour if they can here you , if they can then arrange a time that is mutually agreeable .

BewareOfDragons · 05/05/2018 12:37

I don't think it would be unreasonable during non-quiet hours.

Which one do you have? I'm thinking of getting one. Are they heavy? Could you move it by yourself? Tell me more! How long do you go on it for? Does it time arms too?

WhatCanIDoNowPlease · 05/05/2018 12:41

Tone arms

Raven88 · 05/05/2018 14:24

Thanks for the replies guys, I am just a worrier when it comes to neighbours.

@WhatCanIDoNowPlease www.argos.co.uk/product/6164933 I got this one. I am just starting out but I do 30 mins. I think it's meant to tone arms and I do feel it working arms.its heavy but it has wheels. I can move it myself. For me 30 mins is like an hour walk.

That's great raven, thanks.

@Raven88

I've had a look at that one, how do you use the cross trainer bit without the bike?

clockworklime · 05/05/2018 19:38

Talk to your neighbour and ask the question, they will be able to give you the best answer.

WinnieTheW0rm · 05/05/2018 19:48

Yes you need to ask. Then the neighbour can say'that's fabulous - I've been wanting to resume drumming but was worried about the noise. Perhaps we can arrange to do it at the same time?'

GummyGoddess · 05/05/2018 20:00

If you can hear the television over it, surely it's not too loud or they would have complained about television volume by now?

Raven88 · 05/05/2018 23:29

@WhatCanIDoNowPlease the length of it means you have to stand to use the bars the seat is far back. It works pretty good.

I'd speak to your neighbour but I can't imagine it would be a problem in a ground floor flat.

Unlike the inconsiderate knob who lived above us and used a rowing machine at midnight! I came very close to violence...

Raven88 · 05/05/2018 23:36

I get anxious about noise because my lay neighbours were really noisy and I kept getting the police at my door in the middle of night because the people below thought it was me. It took two months for me to prove it wasn't me. So I've been really anxious about noise since then. Since I moved here I have gotten better but I try never to make noise and wear headphones to watch tv. I work with my neighbour and we are on pretty good terms so I will ask if I see him.

@GummyGoddess my TV isn't loud I have it low and I don't use it that much.
