Playing music outside

Obviously it's not antisocial hours when people are sleeping, but does that make it OK? Every time there's a sunny day my neighbours play cheesy 80s music at quite a high volume outside. Is this antisocial or not? I can't decide because my kids probably make noise when playing and I don't think everyone should be on egg shells in their own garden - tolerance goes a long way - but it is annoying when you fancy a bit of peace to read a book or something. What's the general view?

I think people should be allowed to play music in their gardens if they want to providing it's on a low ish volume (unless it's a pre arranged party or event that neighbours have been warned about)
I agree that it's obnoxious to play music that loud. Some people have no consideration for others.

The house two up from us has been playing electro pop for the past 4 hours (its now 9:20pm here). It’s so loud I can hear it in the lounge, over the tv and the house is actually a 5 min walk from us.

I give it another 10 mins until the wife of the house in between us completely loses her temper and either shuts their power off or starts breaking car windows.

These posts are how I judge when summer has arrived Grin

Oooops - it’s been 7 hours, they started at 2.30 this afternoon.

I've had grime music so loud my windows shakes 9 till 9 since the start of april courtesy of my neighbour.

I'd love a bit of bananarama

I suppose that's why I think I'm in a grey area. I can't hear it indoors, so it's not rock-concert level. But it's definitely not quiet. I don't think I'll ever mention it tbh as I don't want it descending into a tit for tat " you've got the lawnmower on too loud/your kids are playing too excitedly with the sprinkler" or whatever.

Cheery 80s music is antisocial in any context. As is any amplified recorded music outdoors.

longestlurkerever · 05/05/2018 12:42

It's Kool and the Gang at the Mo. They're at least 2 doors down. In my garden I can hear it at the level you'd have it if you were having a family disco with your kids (is that just me?) but without any walls to cushion the neighbours.

Maybe they are trying to drown out the noise from children outdoors as they want to enjoy their garden too.

longestlurkerever · 05/05/2018 12:49

There are no children outdoors at the moment, but point taken.

Other neighbours just came into their garden and said "God, that music is unbearable and it's every sunny day". So maybe IANBU.

it’s still going here, it’s 2am.

No point calling the police as they won’t get here until Tuesday at the earliest and the council only work part time so don’t have an out of hours number to call.
