I live in a house converted into four flats but each two flats share a communal hall. We have been here 8 years and the previous tenant was here before us so never had an issue.

New tenants moved in two weeks ago and seem okay but they are constantly leaving the communal door open. They are only locking it when they are not in. If I'm not in or we are both in it's been unlocked including overnight. She was out overnight without keys the first night so just left it open.

I'm not happy about this. Firstly the actual flat doors are crap internal doors and easily broke down and B all our post goes into the communal hall so at risk of ID theft.

They are leaving it open so that their mates can come up (because there's no bell at present and you can't hear them knocking)
We've mentioned it nicely already and have had people trying the doors and in the bins looking for ID.

We are going on holiday for a week soon and it's stressing me out.

Aibu to leave a note on the door.

The neighbours need it spelling out to them that their failure to lock the door also means that their insurance will be invalid in the event of a break-in, too. Point out to them that people have already tried the doors, etc.

But yes, get on to the landlord/agents as mentioned, it might work better if the neighbours are approached by them to sort themselves out.

Their friends can ring them when outside.

We had one of those bells when we lived in a 2nd floor flat, without issue. Can you get a sign laminated saying please shut this door?

Presuming you both have the same landlord, and same tenancy agreement? If so, what does it say in the agreement about keeping main door closed, and are they in breach by leaving it insecure?

Breach of tenancy could ultimately lead to eviction ...
