We live in a block of flats and share the "garden" with the rest of our block and a second block. The garden is where the path comes down the side of both houses, and there is a sand pit with a bench between the two. The other side of the path there is a steepish slope up to the school playing field and there are trees along the edge of the fencing on our side of the fence. I'm not 100% sure that they are "our" trees as it's the school caretaker who trims them not the caretaker for our block of flats. But that's not really the issue.
I've just had a complaint from our downstairs neighbour that DD was climbing in one of the trees and had broken off a branch and that she and DS did the same yesterday.
I've called them in. DD says the branch she had was the same bit she had yesterday. DS had thrown a stick (I saw it, it was not alive, had no leaves and covered in lichen, and I assume came from the tree that was cut down a few weeks ago) up into this tree and when she climbed up to get it a branch broke. i.e. it was not intentional. I believe her, corroborated by there being no sign of any other broken branches lying around. When I called her down, she carefully hung her branch in the tree so it would be there next time. DS has a penchant for destructive play, so I do keep an eye on them from the window and call down or go down if I see anything. I really didn't see that they were doing anything too bad this afternoon.
AIBU to let DD climb in the trees in a communal garden?
