To think that perhaps being a sahm could be harder than being a wohm for some women

I work full time over 4 days. One ds (age 2)

As I leave early in the morning to get to work, DH gets DS ready and off to nursery.

On my days off I take ds to various activities and play dates. We have a great time enjoying ourselves. One factor is that although we are not wealthy, we have enough money for activities.

Today I have a stinking cold and am staying at home with ds. I think I’m going demented. That’s just him dressed and tooth brushed at lunchtime! I’ve not managed to wash my hair and anything I’ve started doing is only half done. The house is an absolute tip. And that’s from one day at home.

When I see my friends who are off work with multiple children I actually feel a bit stressed for them!

I adore my son and normally love our time together, but being at home all the time with more than one child and not a lot of money would stress me out. At work I get lots of room to go for a break or a pee if needed, and get to have adult chat.

Aibu to say that I would find being a sahm hellish?

just

My dc are grown up now, and y dh was usually around to do a lot of domestics, he did night feeds too as he is a musician and it's the times he was coming in.
We used to share the jobs about the place, although he did/ still does maintenance DIY and most of the gardening.
I suppose you just get on with what you want to do and family fits in with it, or you use childcare if you need/want to.
Our dc didn't stop us from doing anything.

I struggle to get through the weekends sometimes and My child is nearly 7 yo now...

I found being a sahp impossibly hard.

I'm a SAHM to a two year old and pregnant with my second. It's a choice for me, I don't have to worn because we can live on DHs salary. I will return to work around school hours if possible when my children at at school.

For me, some (most) days I count my lucky stars that I'm able to live the life I do. Half our days are fairly structured and he other half we plod along doing as we please. It can be relentless, especially with a toddler as they need constant supervision but it's rewarding enough for me to be worth it (plus DS naps for two hours still so I do get a break).

Some days, like when you're poorly (or have morning sickness/early pregnancy supertiredness for 12 or so weeks) it's fucking miserable and really really hard work. At least when you work, if you're ill you can call in sick and have a day to yourself on the sofa. You can't do that as a SAHM and it sucks.

I don't think there's any one 'right' way of doing things. Whatever works for you and your family.

YANBU

Different women will enjoy and feel engaged by different things. It may be some womens idea of a nightmare to look after young children all day every day! even if they are their own.

Im a SAHM because it works out best for our family that way until both children are in school.
I dont hate it but I enjoyed working more and I do find it much more draining than paid work. Theres no real break either... so although you may often be sat down or drinking a cup of tea, you are still responsible for your children and still tense and alert. Its not like you can pop off to a coffee shop for half an hour to eat lunch alone... I miss that!!!
It may seem to casual observers like one long holiday because you might be in the park or at the cafe.... but you are actually not enjoying those scenarios very much because you are responsible for two young children constantly and have to be alert and ready to deal with them at all times.
Some women take that in their stride and it doesnt bother them... ive personally found it really hard and emotionally draining. I feel constantly stressed in a way I did not when working full time.

Of course. I’m one of them - being a SAHM is just not for me. It has to be said I don’t especially love my job though.
