To think I can do a home hair dye?

So I have naturally mousy brown hair that hasn't seen the light of day in years. I have had a full head of honey blonde highlights for forever and that is how I like to look. But finances have taken a massive plunge in recent months, i have three inches of roots and no option of a hairdresser appointment. On top of everything else going on in my life, this is making me massively depressed. I know it sounds ridiculous and trivial but if anyone could recommend a cheap and effective way I could improve my moptop I would be really grateful.

Yes I do them sometimes in between hair salon colourings. I have used Lloreal preferance before and superdrug own brand

Have you tried treatwell? I've found a cut and highlight for £45 before.

Otherwise, match up your hair colour that is growing out as best as you can and apply all over, in case there is a big difference. If you have bleached highlights, those should still remain lighter and add texture.

wig? home highlighter kit? lemon juice on hair then sitting in the sun? I bet your hair looks lovely as it is though x

travailtotravel · 03/05/2018 20:17

Yep. Read the instructions on the box. Do it when you won't be interrupted. Have an old towel ( I do it naked to avoid clothes stains) and be ready with bathroom cleaning products. Enjoy knowing you're doing something positive.

Do you mean doing your own highlights? Foils would obvs be really tricky to do yourself but cap highlights are relatively easy.

Tigerpaws57 · 03/05/2018 20:27

No I don't think I would have the skill to do my own highlights. I think I'm looking for a product I could use that would blend in the mousy brown roots with the blondy ends but end up looking bright and pretty??

I’ve used these root touch up colour kits for emergencies between appointments- easy to do and looks pretty good

TheRedHatofPatFerrick · 03/05/2018 20:35

I've used the root touch ups a lot and they work well.

Tigerpaws57 · 03/05/2018 20:37

Thank you caperberries** I will look into that

I've dyed my own hair for 23 years and never had it done professionally. It's easy, section your hair, roots first, use a fine tooth comb to apply. Put Vaseline around your hairline so any drips just wipe off.
Garnier are great or the Olia ones.
