In discussion with dp and my dad about 2mo old going in pool..
Now if in a swimming bath then id be fine.
But my parents have an outdoor pool, which granted is heated and maintained like an indoor one would, chlorine etc and tested. And they say for baby to go in it, she has one of those swimming ring seat things.
I worry that she'll get cold due to the outdoor air etc.. She has a uv all in one suit and sun hat and obviously plenty of sun lotion.

A part of me is worrying and the other part is don't be so daft.

It wouldn't be for long..

I never had this with my eldest as they never had the pool then so it was just the swimming baths.

I think this is a bad idea. Firstly a baby of this age chills off really quickly. Secondly, the chemicals are not good. Thirdly the baby would not enjoy it. This is a very small child. You are right to say no

We did with my ds when he was slightly older so 3 or 4 months but I live in a Med resort and it would have been May or June so the perfect time of year temperature wise. He was in one of those contraptions, smothered in paraben free sunscreen and we put a big parasol over the corner of the pool to try and keep it shaded. We took him out after a a few minutes and rinsed him off straight away. It was fine. But I can't say he enjoyed it that much.

I was desperate for mine to get used to swimming as my in laws have a pool too. At 2 and 3 we're getting there. It's taken a while.

Be careful of uv suits. Dd overheated in hers!

I definitely would on a warm day, I just wouldn’t if it was chilly as small babies get cold quickly. DD went swimming in FIL’s outdoor pool in the south of France at 2.5 months and loved it. Wrapped her in a towel afterwards then a bath to the wash off the chlorine. And there are way less chemicals in a private pool versus a public leisure centre, the advice is now that you can take babies swimming as soon as you like so this really isn’t a legitimate concern.

Stick them in a wetsuit and they'll be fine. My kids were swimming from 6 weeks and loved it. Both are real water babies.

I don't worry about her not liking the water as she has a bath with me or dp which is deep and held so she can kick about. It's half shaded so plenty of space out the sun.
It was more the getting cold. But dad has said the heater has been in ages and has got it higer than normal? Always lots of towels on hand next to pool. So not sure. May Try for a couple of minutes then shower and dressed again. Maybe it's a case of see on the day how I feel or leave till more summer at 4/5 months

Just put her in. The UV suit is a good idea.

However expect to be taking her back out again fairly sharpish as kids really do cool down quickly.

If you ever do baby swimming classes somewhere they can alter the temp eg. private pool rather than leisure centre they have the water unpleasantly warm for adults.

Is it in Uk? If so this weekend is meant to be nice and warm, I wouldn’t put a small baby in an outdoor pool if the air temperature wasn’t warm though.

DS was 8 weeks in local indoor swimming pool, DD1 was 12 weeks in indoor pool in Spain and DD2 was 8 weeks in outdoor pool in Spain. With all 3 we would shower them after then wrap them up warm in a towel. Always had a good long nap after a swim.

Fruitcorner123 · 03/05/2018 18:58

If she is cold take her out. Agree with pp the air temperature should be fairly warm and the towel should be accessible so when you get her out you can put her straight in it.

DougFargo · 03/05/2018 18:59

Why not just try it and see?

ThePants999 · 03/05/2018 19:04

If it really is warm in there, and a warm day, it'll be fine, but not for long. Start with 10 minutes or so.
