to have my 2 year old in a cot?

Apparently it is really weird that I have no plans to move my 2.1 year old to a bed any time soon. Is it? He sleeps brilliantly in his cot and he's never tried to climb out of it. We have no further babies planned so don't need it for anyone else.

My DS starts school this year and is still in a cot! There are various practical reasons why we haven’t taken the sides off yet but he is still completely happy, sleeps brilliantly and doesn’t climb out.

I feel like I need to get him in a bed before he starts school because that does just seem a bit much! Grin

I'm keeping DS in his cot for as long as I can! I don't want him running about at bedtime!

Totally fine.

DS was three when he moved to a proper bed.

DC1 (3.5 years!) just started sleeping in his cot a few months ago. Before then he was in with is. I put it back up to baby height and he can climb in and out easily to get to the loo in the night. So I guess it basically serves the purpose of a cot bed with bumper. He loves it.

My ds is nearly 3 and loves his cot and we'll keep him in it for as long as he's happy in it

Re the toilet training question...if you leave that until later then they are often ready to go through the night anyway so don’t need to get up, so the cot sides again aren’t an issue. Children of under 2 (and often older than this) physically can’t go through the night without a wee as they’re not concentrating their urine yet - the health visitors where we are encourage later toilet training these days as it tends to be easier and less stressful all round.

My ds was over 3. Never tried to climb out. He was 7 before he was dry at night so no worries there.

Dd2 on the other hand was not long gone 2 when I found her sat on top of the cot sides.

We moved both DD's out of their cots when they were about 2. It was sheer desperation and hope that they'd somehow sleep better they didn't otherwise DD1 would have moved out at 3 when DD2 arrived and DD2 would have moved out at 2.8 when she stopped wearing a nappy at night.
Do what you want as long as dc is comfortable!
