To ask if anyone wears wigs??

Posting for traffic.

Been to the hairdressers today to be be told my hair is in really bad condition and I need to stop straightening it.

I also need a good 5 inches chopped off.

I've thought that maybe a wig would be my best option, that way I wouldn't have to straighten it for a long time and can give it chance to grow healthily.

What do I go for? Where do I buy?? I'm happy investing in one, I've just no idea where to start.

I wear. There are a large range of options around. Synthetic are usually the cheapest. They are made of artificial hair but you can really tell it's a wig. They look shiny and plasticky and can be very very knotty.

Human hair wigs range in price from quite low to thousands for custom made pieces that are fit to your head. Again the hair quality can range widely, with processed dyed hair being cheaper than unprocessed natural coloured hair. Human hair wigs can be style using normal hair styling tools and are washed withnormal shampoo and conditioner.

You can have different tops and nets so for example a skin top will look like there is a scalp underneath. Lace fronts are very natural at the front. Multi directional wigs allow you to style it and part it different ways. Some have baby hairs added again to make it more natural.

Band fall or hat fall wigs are designed to be worn woth a wide head band or hat and are usually more comfortable than full wigs.

It's possible to buy wigs online but it's a bit of a risk for a more expensive wig, especially the first time you get one as you won't know your hair colour and head size

You need to know your budget first ideally and then can figure out what sort of wig you can get from that.

I wear hair pieces. You could either get a piece which goes over a ponytail or a 3/4 wig which are more affordable options and often look more natural.

Hot hair has a lot of good ones.

What about having a cut that removes the damaged ends and lets it fall into a style that suits it in its naturally curly state?

I'm sure you've thought of that. 😊 Why isn't it an option?

Also vitamin B is amazing for your hair and can really improve its condition. You can get massive vitamin B Complex booster tablets in health shops. Or drink Berrocca and eat loads of Marmite.

I wear lace front wigs which are synthetic, some of them are more realistic than others, my favourite one cost me £60 so at the cheaper end compared to some of the others.

But not the condition of the hair OP already has. Only new hair as it grows through.

Straight hair is old fashion now and really dates a person .
So get the hair cut .
Take vitamin s
Work with your hair not against it .
And look after your hair

I can't bear to have short hair, it's taken me 7 years to grow it to the length it's at now (around 21 inches).

She also told me to stop straightening it too but I also can't go out with my hair in it's natural state.

I think a wig would be my best option.

Can't you wear it up a few times a week and then you won't need to straighten it on those days?

Serendipitystardust · 03/05/2018 16:52

Have you looked into keratin straightening treatments? They straighten, smooth and de-frizz hair whilst making it more healthy. Because it does all this you won't need to straighten as much, or possibly at all. I've had it done this week and am thrilled with the results.

MyGrassNeedsCutting · 03/05/2018 17:26

I wear my hair up 5 days a week, I straighten it on a Monday and it doesn't get washed or straitened again until Saturday.

I used to straighten it everyday but have reduced it by 5 days.

I did ask my hairdresser about it and she advised against it as said its further damage.

She's basically told me not to straighten, curl, brush whilst wet, brush whilst blow drying or anything that could damage it further.

When did you start only washing/straightening it twice a week?

I'd get a second opinion. You're barely touching your hair. How bad could it be?!
