To use glue instead of a drill to put wooden climbing frame together?

The ad for gorilla super adhesive outdoor bonding glue says it will stick anything, wood, concrete etc FOREVER.

Would I be unreasonable to use this as I'm useless with a drill to put my sons new wooden climbing frame together?

Grin ! though [grim] works too.

JessieMcJessie · 03/05/2018 09:40

I’d be really surprised if you had to any drilling, the holes will be pre-drilled. Ot May even be Allen key instead of screwdriver needed. Can you link to the type of frame it is?

Furiousaboutinstarubbish · 03/05/2018 09:45

Oh thank you so much! I'll check the assembly instructions again, see if it's suitable 😊

Cant be real as no sensible parent would think this. If real op...would you climb on a climbing frame secured by glue! Accident waiting to happen

Aridane · 03/05/2018 09:48

Hi, OP - I agree with another poster who says the claims for these glues are over inflated. I've tried with other things and the glue isn't all that (other than for sticking your fingers together Grin ).

If you don't have the tools / inclination to do it yourself, you can the post the job online and a handyman will quote for it.

Cant be real as no sensible parent would think this.

My ex-father (complicated family arrangement here) was shit at DIY and took the policy of "fuck it up big enough the first time around no one will ask me to do it again". He glued a bird box up - the first time a bird landed on it it fell off.... and his greatest hit was the time he assembled a MFI coffee table by hammering the screws in. Every time you put a cup of tea on the bloody thing it collapsed. By the end of things it was about an 8 year old me who was doing all furniture assembly in the house.

Glue for skirting boards here, and wood panelling, worked a treat.

Glue for anything loadbearing, definitely not. Dangerous.

Ifailed · 03/05/2018 12:32

I some people have been a but harsh on OP, plenty of people have little or no DIY experience and stuff like Gorilla Glue is advertised to look like it can handle any job.

UpstartCrow · 03/05/2018 12:48

Just because something will stick does not mean it will bear weight.

PerkingFaintly · 03/05/2018 13:03

Yeah, I thought the harshness out of order too, Ifailed.

You learn two ways: by your own experience (maybe doing it wrong and failing), or by other people's experience (ideally before doing it wrong).

The OP had the wisdom to come and ask for other people's experience so she could learn. Good on her.

Hope the climbing frame goes up a treat and has many happy years' use!

I also think people are being a bit harsh, if you don't know, you don't know. Also, a lot of people havn't grown up with DIY so it's unfamiliar.

OP the contents of the box/package should have everything you need, including the tool - it's more likely to be an Allen key. You might also need an extra person for a climbing frame.

If you post a link/picture of the climbing frame I bet there're enough people here to give you advice/tips if you get stuck.

I've build a double high sleeper on my own/trampoline/climbing frame/shed and the only thing I find essential are:
tea, swearing, swearing, wine and a bit more swearing.

Nikephorus · 03/05/2018 13:47

My dad put a shelf up using glue. He swears by the stuff. The shelf stuck really well to the paint. So well that the paint was still stuck to it when the shelf came off the wall taking the plaster with it. My mum was swearing too. Grin
(In his defence he's really crap at drilling holes too)

JessieMcJessie · 04/05/2018 17:50

Have you built it yet OP?

blueskyinmarch · 04/05/2018 17:53

Drill? I think it will be a screwdriver you need.

NotMeNoNo · 04/05/2018 17:58

I'm assuming the OP means a cordless drill-driver? Can't imagine what sort of kit would come needing holes to be drilled. I'm including a picture in case of more confusion.
