Totally agree. I hate how it's held up as something new, audacious original or daring. It wasn't.
The Ramones (from New York) did that simplistic, fast guitar, punk rock sound long before the sex pistols, and Richard Hell (also American) had spiky hair, ripped t shirts and safety pins in his ears long before Vivienne Westwood supposedly invented that look.
