To ask for your help in getting DH an anniversary card in Italy?

I've royally fucked up. We fly to Italy soon for our anniversary and I've forgotten to buy a bleeding card.

Now I'm thinking I could buy him one in Italy, an Italian anniversary card is Romantic, right?

So, do Italians "do" anniversary cards?

If so, what would it say on the front? I speak no Italian

And finally, if I manage to get hold of one, could anyone help me translate the verse inside so I can rewrite it inside and look dead clever?

Thank you!

I've probably could but I'm thinking the Italian twist would be quite romantic?

Could you get some beautiful Italian paper/card and write something personal on it?

Failing that, google a Tiger shop Grin

I started making my own cards when i lived in Italy cos i couldn't find any cards (Sicily 1998), things may have changed.

Would WHSmith have anything at the airport?

mehhh · 02/05/2018 22:13

I think the idea is lovely but you might find it ends up being a pain in the backside! I'd buy one here first as a back up, that way you have one even if the plan of an Italian one goes wrong!

Are you staying at a hotel? Perhaps ask if the concierge could help?

JeNeBaguetteRien · 02/05/2018 22:14

Depending where you're going it might be difficult, there is not the same card giving culture.
Maybe you could buy a lovely postcard of your destination and write how happy you are to spend your anniversary there together. How many years?

midgwit · 02/05/2018 22:14

Generally, Italians don't really 'do' cards like we do here. When they send them, it's usually to someone you aren't going to see so you post a card instead. Giving one to your OH wouldn't really be done so you might have trouble finding one, but may get a blank card if that would be any good?
Happy anniversary would be Buon Anniversario.

CampariSpritz · 02/05/2018 22:15

OP, they don’t go in for cards in the way we do. I’d get one at the airport.

bearbehind · 02/05/2018 22:15

Airports sell cards Hmm

Crispbutty · 02/05/2018 22:18

I was just thinking, I don’t by recall seeing any card shops when I’ve been in italy. Granted it’s not the sort of shop I would go looking for but I don’t think the card giving culture is the same as here.

Crispbutty · 02/05/2018 22:19

And unless your DP is a rare breed, most blokes really don’t mind if they get cards or not. I’ve never known one that did anyway.

LeeMiller · 02/05/2018 22:20

Better to pick one up at the airport if you can.
Cards are less commonly given in Italy than the UK but some newsagents or supermarkets sell them. Museum shops might have some arty ones. Bookshops often have a small selection, probably not anniversary-specific though. Anniversary is 'anniversario' but you're more likely to find 'auguri' (good wishes) which is used for everything from birthdays to general congratulations (anniversary or new job, baby, degree).

BossyPaws · 02/05/2018 22:21

Bearbehind, why the face? Are you normally such a faceache? This was meant to be lighthearted so take your face elsewhere.

I like the idea of a postcard! If I can write a verse on it myself in Italian I think that would be a winner!

The face was for the rather dramatic opening sentence!

If you'd really 'royally fucked up' you'd buy a card at the airport.

If you wanted to send your DH an Italian card with Italian words as you'll be in Italy why not just say so?
