Mother fox, dropped her baby while climbing our fence. Dog ran out and barked! Saw her drop something. Went to investigate it was her baby.

I’ve locked the cat flap, to stop dog and cats going out. Turned lights off, all quiet. Mother hasn’t been back. Cub is smaller than it looks in picture.

Do I just totally leave it? That’s what I think, all night?

Try these people: www.nfws.org.uk/

isseywithcats · 02/05/2018 21:01

i would find the number of a local wildlife sanctuary give them a ring and ask them what to do that way if the mother dosent come back by morning they will be able to take it in for you

Crispbutty · 02/05/2018 21:01

Leave it. Mum will come back. Keep your animals in. :)

JamPasty · 02/05/2018 21:02

Their contact number for emergencies is 07778 183954

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 02/05/2018 21:02

This is the out of hours number for the rspca. 0300 1234 999

It says that it is for cases of cruelty or for animals in distress.

Sadsnake · 02/05/2018 21:03

I'm not sure but ,I would probably do the same as you and pray she comes back..assuming it was the mother fox...why wouldn't the mother leave the baby in the den? Why would she be carrying it about?

CatsMother66 · 02/05/2018 21:03

Do not touch it or pick it up. If you do the mother will abandon it as it has your scent on it. Leave it for Mum to come back.

Shedmicehugh1 · 02/05/2018 21:06

Mother showed an interest and another fox when first dropped, looking over fence. Cub running back and forth, then hiding. They seemed to have disappeared shortly after.

I’m assuming they are waiting for darkness. Can’t really see down the back now. Do I just check in the morning? Seems to make sense? If cub not gone, then call someone?

Hope it's okay.

Shedmicehugh1 · 02/05/2018 21:19

No answer from RSPCA number, just on hold for 10 minutes.

Use common sense?

GlitteryFluff · 02/05/2018 21:19

I reckon mum will come back during the night. I'd call someone tomorrow if Fox is still there.

Shedmicehugh1 · 02/05/2018 21:23

She obviously knows where it is. Cub not big enough to climb fence. It’s eyes are still blue, so quite young.

I’m thinking leave alone, keep dog in. Check in the morning?

Hope this helps www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/wildlife/orphanedanimals/foxcubs

Shedmicehugh1 · 02/05/2018 21:39

Thank you. I will leave well alone. I was worried about other foxes maybe attacking it. DH is now calling me Darla from Nemo! 😁

I can hear the foxes calling to each other now in garden. I will worry tomorrow, if need be!

Zeelove · 02/05/2018 22:26

Aww. Yeah I would leave it. I'd want to bring it inside though

ohhereweareagain · 02/05/2018 22:31

Thanks for caring op ❤ I love foxes. They get a bad rap . Let us know what happened. I'd be the dame as you in wanting to help

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 02/05/2018 22:37

I hope mama fox returns!

Eliza9917 · 02/05/2018 22:40

They'll tell you to leave them alone. I rang a sanctuary about one in my road that was limping after snow. They told me not to interfere and leave it to its own devices.

lunar1 · 02/05/2018 22:42

I hope it's ok!

WomanEqualsAdultHumanFemale · 02/05/2018 22:45

If they’re calling to each other she will come back for it. She’ll wait till it’s quieter.

Soundsgood · 02/05/2018 22:49

Sad Fingers crossed they reunite.

TheHobbitMum · 02/05/2018 22:52

Fingers crossed Mum Fox comes back quickly for baby

newmumwithquestions · 02/05/2018 23:03

Please come back and give us an update in the morning though!

Shedmicehugh1 · 03/05/2018 08:10

Cub has gone this morning Smile happy ending!

God knows why mum was moving it. They have had their babies behind our garden fence for a few years now. First time one has been dropped.
