Boss shouting at me for attending a emergency call

I’m new here so please bear with me.
I work in male dominated sector, have been working here for 18 months. My DD 9 has been undergoing many tests, lots of hospital appointment as she hasn’t been very well recently, I have arranged all the appointment after work so my work is not affected, yesterday I had to attend an urgent phone call from hospital lasting less than 5 mins and then later had to make an other urgent phone call and my boss shouted at me in front of the whole office telling me how frustrating it is for him to tell me to do this work - official deadline for this work is in Jan next year. I was so hurt by his behaviour. The work takes less than 30 mins. I tried talking to his boss - as we have no HR, but when I asked him if he could keep it confidential, he refused saying I’m not sure if I can do this. Now am I being unreasonable to go and tell him tomorrow how unprofessional and unacceptable my boss’s behaviour was. This would possibly mean he would make my life a hell!

Has this come out of nowhere? Is it normal behaviour for him to shout at staff in the main office?

I can't quite make out what he's shouting at you for tbh

Right, ok so yes it’s common for him to shout at women in the team. He would never speak to the guys like this. He came to my desk as I was leaving to make the phone call, and started shouting oh if you can’t do the work, I will get someone else to do it when I told him that I need to book a CT scan for my daughter urgently. The work he wanted me to do has the deadline in Jan 2019 so no reason for rush

Unless there’s something you’re not mentioning like your workplace has a ban on personal phones except in designated break areas then yes you should definitely complain about your boss. Shouting at you in front of the rest of the team is never acceptable. If he’s upset with the quality of your work, your behaviour or anything else then he should call a meeting and discuss it with you privately behind close doors.

No ban at personal phones, it’s a normal office - a professional firm and everyone uses phones. That’s why I wanted to complain, but I feel he may become even worse after the complain. Considering I’m going so much stress as it is due to my child’s health, last thing I want is non stop stress from him.
