Sorry posting for traffic
Wondering if anyone could shed a light on this. My periods seem to be all over the place

December - period late
January - period normal
February - period normal
March - period 2 weeks later
March - expected normal period, ended 29th
April- no period, brown blood when wiping twice in one day not heavy enough for a pad
No period since, have taken 3preg tests negative. Not TTC. Clear smear in 2016.

Any help understanding this or advice would be amazing

Weight fluctuations or stressful situations?

wideawak · 02/05/2018 01:07

Nothing new or out of the ordinary stress wise. Weight hasn't changed. Not very sure if I should be concerned Confused

How old are you ?

LuluMarie · 02/05/2018 01:09

Go have another smear test. My periods got lighter (although not late), smear tests ruled anything out for years until uh oh, turns out they had been misread and I was in some serious trouble! It's rare so don't panic, but don't trust a smear. Ask for referral to a specialist clinic, that's better for you anyway if you're wondering what might be going on, or go to a drop in well woman clinic, someone and somewhere else. Just to be absolutely sure! I don't want to worry you, please don't worry, I just can't let your question go past without letting you know to check in case of a teeny tiny outside chance of it being worth a check!

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 02/05/2018 01:10

Have to ask sorry, how old are you?

7seas · 02/05/2018 01:10

How old?

wideawak · 02/05/2018 01:11

I'm 31.

Have you childre, or every ttc?

wideawak · 02/05/2018 01:13

@LuluMarie thanks, I'll make an apt in the morning. I'm in Scotland and they only offer a smear ever 3 years. After my first child I tried to go for one but it turned out they wouldn't see me until I was due, which was after I had another baby

Children sorry

Pinkbedsheets · 02/05/2018 01:14

Not on any contraception or have been recently ?

wideawak · 02/05/2018 01:16

@Whyarealltheusernamestaken I've got 2 children, not TTC and have been using condoms as protection. There may have been a slight insertion for a second or two a while back but I assume if I'd fallen pregnant, as highly unlikely it would be, I would have a positive result by now?!

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 02/05/2018 01:18

My guess would be a hormonal imbalance, ask your gp for a blood test. Could be something simple like thyroid issues. Or could be a vitamin deficiency like iron, b12 or D. Any could make your cycle irregular. Get it checked though

wideawak · 02/05/2018 01:24

Thanks at @Whyarealltheusernamestaken I'm going to phone the gp tomorrow. I was recently diagnosed as having IBS with wheat and gluten being a main trigger and told to remove it from my diet. I know I've suffered with anemia for over a decade, possibly just starting to have an effect from it?

This all happened to me in Scotland and there were several of us, much more than one lab, screener, hospital, consultants. I heard later that there had been many, many girls and women, more than I even knew about. So please don't take the chance! Make sure you get at least one more smear and a full check up too. Please don't rely on smears in that country, they nearly killed me and would have done if I hadn't moved away. The three years is no symptoms, you have symptoms of changed period, again super normal, but a reason for a check. Also well woman drop in clinics do them whenever, not schedules. Don't panic and I'm sure it's fine, just take charge and make sure you get proper checks as thoroughly as possible and an explanation is it's something like hormones!

wideawak · 02/05/2018 09:38

Thanks @LuluMarie just spoke with the sexual health clinic to see if I could get booked in for a smear and they said they would not see me so early before my next smear is due. Waiting on my gp to phone back and see if there's anything she could do to change the decision!

Can't get an appointment for a smear until I'm due one next year Angry

You can walk into a well woman clinic and get one on the spot. Don’t take no for an answer, please. They’re bullshitting you.

I’m tempted to give you a list of names (and their lawyers names), mine and a few others still scare the crap out of them.

Where are you based? I know a drop in clinic in Glasgow where you’ll get one same day. Stirling too.

Seriously, I’m sure you are ok but don’t let them do this to do. It broke my heart a million times over, it’s been years and as positive as I am, it kills me every day.

LuluMarie · 04/05/2018 03:48

Also if you have irregular symptoms, which you do, you should be getting a full check now. Not when something is due. I have symptoms I have symptoms I have symptoms, bang on about that and if your go says no, ask her to write in your notes that you reported changes and asked for a check up and referral for a check but we’re refused.

That should get them moving.

If not let me know, we’ll get it done for you

LuluMarie · 04/05/2018 03:57

Sorry, did you mean your gp said no?

Call and ask her to put in your notes your symptoms and that you asked for a check up and where and you were refused, plus you asked her for a referral and she refused.

Or better still (or if she patronizes you or refuses) make an appointment, tell her the symptoms and that you feel it is imperative you have a check up. She had to write what you tell her in your notes, if she doesn’t report her to the GMC.

Sexual health drop in clinics should see you without an appointment and give you a check straight away. You don’t need an appointment, just arrive, irregular bleeding symptoms, give you a damn check!

wideawak · 04/05/2018 20:28

It was the sexual health clinic who declined an early smear. I went for a consultation with my gp who said she has no worries about my irregular periods, because when they come the bleeding is how it should be. No clots, heavy bleeds, light bleed etc. @LuluMarie

What you live is normal enough for me, always has been that unpredictable.

scotchpie · 04/05/2018 20:38

I've just had a coil fitted this week due to heavy period, a Gynaecology Dr done it due to complicated medical history.

I asked her about doing my smear as it is due the end of the year and she said they will just throw it away, they are really strict on dates so really no point.

Mummadeeze · 04/05/2018 21:00

I am going through something similar... no period since March apart from a bit of brown stuff. Definitely not pregnant but felt it. Also having allergic reactions to something which is probably unconnected. Have had loads of tests today - thyroid, allergy tests, hormone tests, swabs, ovarian cancer and other stuff. Had three pages worth of blood tests taken! I will get results back next week so will update you when I find out what is going on. I am 44 though so think it might be my peri menopause which it won’t be your problem hopefully!

LuluMarie · 04/05/2018 22:41

Bleeding pattern is no reason to say no to your request for a smear. It’s well known as symptomless until too late. Well I say well known, it’s medical fact but I was shocked by how many doctors had no idea of this.

Again I’m sure you are fine, I just know what can happen and does happen often in that country when women are ignored and tests regularly misread. I have the scars to prove it.

There is a bad attitude of not listening to woman by the so called professionals. I find it bizarre that they are saying no, other than taking a superior attitude.

I had no clotting, no heavy bleeding, light as I was on the pill. I had three “clear” smear tests, including audited by consultants, every test I’d ever had. I also had a 24cm tumour in my cervix and womb. No symptoms. These people turned me away repeatedly, even saying oh you’re young, you just don’t know how to be a woman. Turns out I knew a lot better than them and I still know how to be a woman. It’s just so, so much harder now.

Again I’m sure you’re fine but I know what you’re being told is not acceptable or correct and I know multiple girls and women whose lives were destroyed or lost because they or their tests were ignored.

I know a sexual health clinic in Glasgow that is just a walk in, immediate check up, if you can get there?
