to worry about this?

My Dad is 63 and was given a 'diagnosis' (not sure if it's exactly a diagnosis) of Coronary Heart Disease in November after a couple of months of increasingly severe unstable angina. He is on several medications to try to prevent and treat his condition.

Anyway fast forward to today- we were talking about my Dad's Mum. She used to be referred to as 'Mai' by her grandkids (so me and my cousins) because my grandad rudely suggested that she should be referred to as 'Memsaab' rather than 'Grandma' but my oldest cousin could only manage to say 'Mai' and it stuck. My Dad has told me and my brothers this story lots of times when we were younger and even in recent years. Today he told us that he wasn't sure why my Grandma used to be referred to as 'Mai' rather than 'Grandma' and when I said 'Oh that's because Grandad wanted her to be called 'Mensaab' isn't it?'. My Dad said 'No I don't think so, not that I know of'.

Am I right to be worried that he might be developing Vascular Dementia?

I cared for my Granny who died last year through years of physical illness and Vascular Dementia so feel concerned that he should forget a personal and emotionally significant memory like this. He has also had issues with irritability but he's working, coping with his illness and my parents are in the process of moving so he's under a lot of stress.

Any insight/advice appreciated!

My first concern would be that he might be suffering from medication induced dementia, which is very common among patients taking multiple medications. Some of them may be negatively interacting with each other.

Thanks Aquamarine, that could be the case. Do you know of any particular drug interactions that cause temporary dementia?

One of his medications (a calcium channel blocker) was causing temporary/reversible heart failure and that has just been stopped but I'm clueless really.

Is he showing any other symptoms? Inappropriate actions, comments, disinhibition, for example? What’s his short term memory like? Could be anything, UTI, medications as PP suggested.

Keep an eye on him and a diary of any unusual behaviour. Flowers for you though, I wouldn’t wish VD on my worst enemy.
