I suffer with BED (Binge Eating disorder), it's getting progressively worse.

I've seen the doctor (who told me there's nothing they can do).

I've been referred to a counselling service with the NHS, I'm on a 10 month waiting list.

I've bought countless books.

Read countless stuff online.

Joined countless groups on social media.

Contacted BEAT & been to OA the lot!

I'm at my wits end, clothes are getting tighter and I'm going to bed absolutely stuffed from the day......I feel like my quality of life is absolute shit.

WIBU to just order some stuff from American and take it?? I know it's dangerous but so is binge eating, it's slowly killing me.

Have you asked your doctor for Saxenda? You can buy this online in the uk but your doctor may prescribe it for you. Google it, I think it may help you.

PersianCatLady · 02/05/2018 12:02

Part of the agreement with the manufacturer and the NHS is that it will not be prescribed on the NHS but it is available on private prescription.

PersianCatLady · 02/05/2018 12:02

Above post was about Saxenda injectable pen.

This is a psychological issue taking a pill isn't going to help, please get counselling

parklives · 02/05/2018 13:04

Been there done that, I really feel for you and completely understand your desperation.

However, you are crazy ordering controlled drugs online. Even if by some miracle they are what they say they are the pills won't get past customs. You are trying to commit a crime, no legit company will sell them to you. And everyone else is just making money out of you, they will be selling fakes.

What has helped me (other than getting older and realising I don't want to do this forever) was, getting a dog (= moderate exercise, fresh air and unconditional love) & getting recipe boxes delivered so I enjoyed cooking good food again rather than living on junk. I have also had therapy (although not directly about my eating disorder) which cost a bomb, but I'm sure I've saved that money in all the food I wasted!

Put your name down for NHS help and get on the waiting list, in the meantime prioritise your health and well-being into spending the money you would have wasted on fake pills/binging food on a good therapist.

Dear MyGrassNeedsCutting,

I read your post about binge eating and felt I should reach out.

I'm so sorry you've experienced these difficulties.

I too suffer from binge eating and worry constantly of it getting worse.

Despite taking 20 mg fluoxetine for about 1 week now, I've found little benefit.

I've also read countless books, blogs and listened to podcasts, to no avail.

As someone else said in this thread, the problem must be addressed in a behavioural and psychological way.

May I ask if you ever found any medications (Elvanse or otherwise), which helped?

Best regards,
Jon

Just a reminder that sending PM’s to sell products or courses is against the T&C

JustForThisFred · 02/02/2019 14:37

MyGrassNeedsCutting

Beware of any PM’s offering miracle cures. Often people get them when there are drug names on threads.

You’ll probably get some lovely PM’s too though. The good far outweighs the bad.

Re your initial question - would I buy meds overseas online. Yes & no. When I hit 35 and was a bit overweight, my Dr refused to prescribe my pill anymore. I ended up buying it online. Over about 18 months I got it from a couple of different places. Then I got some and they were a different shape & colour. I contacted them and they just said they were fine. But the style of communication worried me so I didn’t take them. Combined with having read a bit more about the fake stuff and what it could be mixed with, I decided not to order it again, from anywhere. Just after that a friend ended up in hospital, seriously ill, from something she’d ordered online.

However, there are OTC drugs available overseas that we don’t have here and if I felt it would help, I’d consider it, but via friends travelling etc, not online.

You just have NO idea what you’re getting, let alone whether they’re safe for you personally.

JustForThisFred · 02/02/2019 14:52

I think there are drugs that help to make you feel full, gastric sleeve/band will make you feel full...but it’s not that you don’t feel full, it’s that you don’t listen to your body telling you that, so a pill isn’t going to help 🙁. I know that’s not what you want to hear ((Hug))

This next bit might sound horrible, but 🤷🏻‍♀️

At the moment there are a lot of episodes of my 600lb life on. Watching them back to back has really made me think about a lot of things. It’s very sad because they pretty much all have an incredibly sad life story. But it’s jnterestibg to see their thought processes, justifications, excuses and their ‘ah ha’ moment. Now, there’s some controversy over the program and it’s very ‘formula’ but it certainly makes you think.

I get really cross with some of them and just think ‘oh fgs don’t be so stupid! But then I think, ‘How different is that to me & my thought process’? and it’s changing me.

I don’t weight anything like 600lb, but I’m still overweight and at some stage they WERE my weight.

I think counselling would help, probably reasonably quickly, if you have an idea of what might be making you be like this.

£80 is a lot of money, but if you went once a month the money you are currently spending on binge food would probably pretty much pay for it, £20 pw

Please don't take Phentermine. I'm convinced that this is what destroyed my thyroid. I was prescribed it ( I say prescribed but she just pulled a big bottle of them out of her bag and counted mine out into a container) by a "doctor" who ran private slimming clinics in my local town. She then told me to empty my fridge and just eat pot noodles. I wanted to lose a stone before my wedding!
I took them for a month, they were awful! My heart would beat so fast that I thought it was going to burst.cat the end of that month, this doctor and her clinic was plastered all over the front page of our local paper. She had been arrested and charged with selling these tablets. It turned out that she used to be a doctor but had been struck off some years earlier. One of her adult children was a chemist and would provide her with the tablets.
Within 6 months, My thyroid was no longer working . When the hospital tested my tsh it was 89 and they told me I was lucky to be alive.

Hello,

Binge eating is a difficult beast to tame - speaking from personal experience.

The phrase, "Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full" doesn't seem to apply when you have a voracious appetite.

Having said that:

I've found Garcinia Cambogia to be effective as an appetite suppressant -

www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/garcinia-cambogia-weight-loss

Topamax / Topirimate is hit or miss.

Fluoxetine seems to take the edge off things.

I have not had Vyvanse/ Elvanse but that seems like the only viable medical treatment out there to "beat the binge"

(Or at least reduce the number of episodes).

So for MyGrassNeedsCutting I do hope you are in a better place in 2019 than 2018.

You can recover.

Keep Calm and Carry On, as they say.

Best regards
Jon

I'd be worried it's counterfeit.
