But what do you know about Tietzes Syndrome?

Sorry, I know I'm being U posting in this topic but...

I've had loads of health stuff going on recently, then started having chest pains 6 days ago. Finally got to see the GP, turns out when I was 10 (over 20 years ago!!) I was diagnosed with Tietzes syndrome.

Often intermixed with costochodritis (so?) but different, it's a lifelong condition that has flare ups, some that can be very debilitating. It's inflammation in the chest and it's symptoms can mimic a heart attack.

Certainly explains a lot of the aches and pains I've had over the years as well as other symptoms that have appeared randomly.

Helpfully my mum can't even remember me being diagnosed with it! I've had a google but hard to find info specifically on Tietzes so wondering if anyone here had experience of it or knows more? I'm obviously a bit shocked this morning!!

Thanks :)

Had it for years. Flares up to the point it hurts to move or breathe them goes away again. Pesky cartilage. Diclofenac helps as does rest.
Hard to differentiate now as fibromyalgia is a visiting and the pain points are similar.
Try Bowen therapy. That seems to help.

I've got it. Had it for years. Before I was diagnosed I actually ended up in A & E as I thought I was having a heart attack.

It hurts to absolute buggery and quite frightening when you can't breathe properly or it feels like there's an elephant sat on your chest.

It's just all the aches and pains and random chest stuff I've had for tears now makes total sense, I think people thought I was being a hypochondriac when actually I've had it years just never knew!

A lot to get my head round. And yes, it crossed my mind I was having a heart attack at the weekend the pain was so bad, I just thought I'd eaten something horrendous but couldn't think what!

One of my more bizarre mornings I must say. I work FT and have 2 DC so I'm hoping the flare ups aren't any worse than they are now, I'm guessing you get various degrees of it.

I have this I've had it since I was ten too. I remember staying over at a friend's house and been rushed to hospital and they found nothing wrong with me it was awful. I had physio which helped but it does creep up again but it doesn't last as long. One thing that helped was seeing a chiropractor because it's all linked to chest rib and back.
If I get it now I do my physio exercises and it goes away in just a minute.

Sunflowerhappy · 01/05/2018 13:53

Put your left arm across your body keeping it as straight as possible pointing towards the right and try and stretch your back muscle. The cartilage is somehow linked to the nerve or muscle or what ever. Keep stretching across your body and the pain should settle

StewPots · 01/05/2018 14:17

Thank you @Sunflowerhappy I shall try that. I have an aggravated AC joint in my right shoulder so physio advises I do exercises to open up the area, will have to see now if this needs to change.

Im on regular naproxen and co-dydramol for shoulder flare ups but haven't had one for a while so have ran out of the good stuff, so OTC remedies it is for now.

The pain is easing off my chest finally but I'm utterly exhausted and shaking like a leaf.

I feel really strange, like everything finally adds up and all the random symptoms over the years make sense, but I don't feel I was given enough information from the GP. It sounds uncommon so I'm not really surprised, but what's it like for you pre and post flare up?
I just want to be prepared if I can!
